Democrats weren’t “waging” culture wars. They were expanding rights of marginalized groups, strengthening social programs, and raising taxes on the richest Americans, which reduced the national debt and lifted the country out of a recession brought on by the previous Republicans president. These are the antithesis of the Republican Party’s platform. To fire up their base and distract from the Democrats’ economic success, Republicans turned it into a culture war by weaponizing religion to attack a marginalized group, and demonzing Democrats by calling them socialists and their social programs as 1 step closer to turning America into another Cuba.

100% this. If it wasn’t for the electoral college, Republicans would NEVER win an election. A Republican candidate hasn’t won the popular vote in an extremely long time, and there is a reason for that: They have no platform, and the few ideas they do have are trash and only benefit the rich and corporations. Therefore they have to fear monger and make up fake culture war issues about the left to distract from their incompetence.
