If we're going to achieve championship goals, the Gators need one of our pitchers to be at ALL-SEC level, Delbrey being the most likely, IMO.
Watched a interview with Walton tonight and Delbrey will miss the start of the season. Awful news. Says Hightower and Riley will get the bulk of the innings. Says Pollard has had a good camp and expects her, Walsh, and Roe to all get time at 2nd and DH. Catcher will be mostly Longley and Wilkie, with some Roe. Thanks for posting this. Very good, open, honest interview with Coach Walton. Too bad Delbrey won't be ready to go right off the bat. And he acknowledges towards the end of the interview that pitching is the key to reaching their goals this year. Will be interesting to see if Echols has an All-America type year after playing with nagging injuries most of last season. Also, how the competition for 2B and catcher will play out.
Wow. Terrible news about Delbry. Hope that EH is back in form or the early season may be a challenge. Can’t wait for the 23 class to join the team .
What’s also scary about the Delbrey news is that early indications last season were that Bailey Goddard was only going to miss early season and then ended up missing the whole season. Different injuries, I’m sure, but let’s hope that doesn’t happen again this season.
I don't believe Delbrey is hurt. If I remember correctly she had some type of corrective surgery after last year's WCWS. I did see on a Gator softball discussion board that when fall practice started Lexie had a brace and/or cast on her throwing hand and by mid-November it has been removed. So she's got to get the strength back in that hand and build up the stamina again in her arm and legs before Coach Walton will put her in the circle against another team. Hopefully, we'll have her back at full strength before the conference season starts.
Having purchased UF/Stetson tickets, I'm on their mailing list. I wish our team did an event like this -- I'd love to take a few swings: ======================== Stetson Softball will be having a preseason picnic and fundraiser that will be Saturday, Feb 4th from 3-6pm at Patricia Wilson Field. Tickets can be purchased at the link below and tickets include 3 swings off of our pitchers and a meal ticket which will include a sub from Jimmy Johns, chips and a drink. Find your competitive side or just purchase a meal ticket and come enjoy an afternoon with us before we kick off our season on Feb 10th!
I thought we recruited 5 outstanding Freshman, when I look at the roster I only see 2 Freshman on listed. Can someone help me, i am just starting to become a fan of softball. Do we have 5 amazing freshman? Are they on the team? Will any contribute this year, who looks to be the star? Any articles I can read? Thanks
We only have 2 freshmen on this year's softball team - Kaila Pollard and Olivia Gigante. We have the #1 recruiting class in the nation and possibly the best class in UF history signed and coming in for next year. Also, @theorangebluewinagain, here's an article about this year's freshman class. It lists 3, but Sam Roe actually enrolled early and played last year. Softball Adds Three Newcomers on Signing Day - Florida Gators
