A very appropriate soundtrack for grilling ribs. At least the Hank Jr & Waylon. Was never a Willie guy myself. Great songwriter, just didn’t care for him much as a performer.
Tonight I’ll be grilling bone-in country cut ribs indirect over cherry wood smoke. Inside we’ve got a pot of fresh green beans and Yukon potatoes and bi-color cob corn. The back porch is open and ready for your pleasure. Life is good in Gator Nation!
In the aftermath of the flooding damages here, people were putting all kinds of stuff at the curb - most of it damaged from flooding. But mixed in were items in perfectly good condition. In my Mom's neighborhood one day, I spotted a small pile of LP's, so stopped to check them out. Turns out they consisted of about 6 Willie albums, one Waylon, and a multi-LP box set of country music classics. All in perfect condition! Timing was perfect because they had no damage from the heat. I brought them home and added them to my collection!
More of a Hank, Sr, fan myself. Also like Uncle Tupelo for alt-country (No Depression and Anodyne are great albums) and then there was a split that created Wilco and Son Volt. And a huge Lucinda Williams fan.
Lurk brings up Sr …who I have as #4 all time (I do lists) AND then throws down Uncle & Lucinda? Very impressed sir. Both outside my lane, but acquainted with both.
Wasn’t dogging Willie, Baz. Huge contributor to the country music genre and his influence was certainly felt by many. I just felt he was a bit overrated as an act.
Tonight I’ll be grilling cheeseburgers. The normal sides of BBQ baked beans and French fries will be served alongside the burgers. It’s warmed up here to 68* today. The back porch Yeti is restocked and Ms. Jan’s wine is chilled. Life is good in Gator Nation!
I can see that. No doubt that he would be considered one of the great song writers with just "Crazy" on his resume. I kind of feel the same way about J J Cale. Pretty good performer but his list of songs is phenomenal. Call Me the Breeze, After Midnight, Cocaine that other people had huge hits with to name a few. Magnolia is a beautiful song.
I went to Big Joe's today and saw a guy riding his bike through the parking lot all decked out in Eagles garb....lol.... Last week inside and sitting at one of the booths was a guy all decked out in 49ers regalia. He and his party were from California and he shared some pretty cool stories about his experiences watching the Niners. I bet next visit I'll see some KC Chiefs fan all decked out. Nature of the beast when one lives in the Sunshine State!
Making chicken tinga for tacos. For some reason my son doesn't like it so I am making him regular tacos. Made pickled red onions as a topping along with avocado cubes and queso fresco.
I forgot to say that I was also making tostones. And my son tasted the tinga and said that it was pretty good so I won't be making gringo Tex-Mex tacos for him.
Tonight we’re having Taco Bean Soup made with chicken. To us it’s a tasty change from the traditional ground beef. The ice cold longnecks and chilled wine are ready for your pleasure. Life is good in Gator Nation!
Going to grill some thick pork chops on the KJ tonight. My MIL wants to make a brocolli slaw for some reason and I thought these would be good with that. Also pork shoulder was on sale at Publix so I bought one to smoke for pulled pork this weekend. Best thing that ever came out of western North Carolina.
That is the basic idea but there is more to it. For example penne and rigatoni are of a similar shape but rigatoni is much more toothy and pairs well with rich ragus like a oxtail ragu. Penne works better with lighter sauces. Still much is to personal taste.
