    Orlando.... Again
Why would we want to get together for a fun day in the swamp? Football is about ticket sales, NIL, and TV deals, not friends, tailgating, or families.

Easter is on the previous Sunday and sundown on that date marks the end of Passover. Can't imagine that has any relevance. The previous Thursday would have more sense if it was about getting the students in the stands the night before a holiday weekend.

Didn't they have a good turnout last year on Thursday?

Last year was also Billy's first so there was a lot of curiosity. This year much less so, other than do we have a QB.
Also last year on a Thursday before Easter weekend. Lots of people are already off for Good Friday. No one will have off the Friday after this year's game.
No one is really gonna get excited watching a Thursday night game ever if we are the only one on TV. The atmosphere is the stadium will we one tenth of a Fall Saturday.
IS that something we really want to broadcast?

All of the major cities that have lots of Gator fans are all 2+ hours away (Tampa, Orlando, Jax). I hate that we had to play Friday night vs FSU last year, and really hate the thought of having to play at Utah this year on a Thursday. The only time prior to that we played on a weeknight was pre-Spurrier. This should not be a thing for the Gators.

I guess the silver lining for me is that it will save me a lot of time and money. Not so good for local businesses though that would have gotten the money.

Doesn’t mean it doesn’t suck for some of us. I get it but I don’t have to like it.

    In my head--- UF
    A SOS coached team played
MSU on a TH night if memory serves

I mean look, I get it, not optimal but it is 2 months away with plenty of time to plan

    And it's FREE

in 2022 they said 45,000 fans in the stands on a TH in the Swamp
    30K in Doak Shambles

You are correct, in that it was 1992 since they last played a Thursday night game (so ALMOST pre-Spurrier, it was actually my freshman year at UF), but it was a road game.
Lost at Mississippi State. There is now a very good chance the opener at Utah will be moved to Thursday night, but again a road game.
Never that I can recall have they ever played a non-weather postponed game at home on anything but Saturday.

Those attendance total for both UF and FSU are greatly inflated. There is no way BHG was 50% full, and Doak was 25% at best.

I really wish I could go to and if it was on a Saturday I would probably be there. It’s just too much for me from Pensacola.

It would be a great benefit if its even on TV. Last year it was not. At this time UF hasn't announced broadcast information.

UF has managed to ruin Gator growl, the parade and now the O&b game. And I’m always a “get rid of tradition I favor of what is good the students”/ guy. New uniforms, blare music the players like- all for it. But they’ve really screwed up giving things to the common fan and Gainesville

Wasn't it on ESPN+ last year? Could be wrong. Maybe delayed.

TV broadcast... we don't warrant a Saturday slot, so they can send a crew for a Thursday.

    Would be my guess...

It all started when Pepsi bought Gatorade, and UF had to get rid of coke products in the swamp in order to keep Gatorade. Coke > Pepsi.

I’m trying, with no success, to load a picture of the 1961 Gator Growl program with this reply. Dick Stratton was the emcee and the Kingston Trio were the headline performers.
I remember seeing many stars and future stars perform at Gator Growl. Larry the Cable Guy, a very young Ray Romano and I may be wrong, but I think Bob Hope performed at The Growl once.
    Great memories!

Funny you said that: only thing I remember about that performance is that I was disappointed. I kept it to myself though. To criticize Bob Hope was blasphemous.
