Not just defending the monsters, making children easier prey for them. Sexual abusers target children who haven't been taught about their bodies, can you guess which group is against children being taught about their bodies?

It isn't about a lack of willingness. It is about the usage of motivated reasoning and purposeful blindness. I doubt a single one of these people would say that they wouldn't have stood up for the victims, in theory. And yet, they didn't due to a variety of psychological reasons.

Also, I would find it odd if the people who believe we should execute adults who commit sexual battery against kids or young adults might simultaneously argue that purported victims shouldn't be believed if we subjectively think they probably could have beaten up their abuser and failed to use force. Were the older and stronger gymnasts required to take a swing at Dr. Nassar to be believed? That's not only a standard which blames victims and would discourage victims from speaking out, but it also seems to undercut the arguments about the frequency and unique predatory nature of such crimes which would justify treating them the same as or worse than murders.

This makes me think of an assistant HS football coach (at my HS in fact but later) that was also an EMT. He was accused of doing unlicensed exams on HS football players. I don't recall the outcome of particular allegations about the exams, but there were tons of charges going back many years, and he got convicted of molesting even younger boys. He was a very thin guy, and I'm sure even most HS football players would have been stronger than him in the weight room. But he was one of my former TaeKwonDo instructors and one of the most talented in our entire organization, which I think is relevant in two respects.

I don't know if the football players would have known that he was a 5th degree black belt, but even the bigger seniors stood no chance against him in a fight had that happened. And even then, it would have been his word against theirs - a student accusing a church leader and local business owner of something no one would have suspected. I was around him a lot in my HS years and never got any indication of him being that way. He was very well respected, and I'm still shocked years later that I hadn't picked up any weird vibes from him. I think I'm generally pretty good at reading people but I really missed it with him, and it still reminds me not to trust my instincts too much. And obviously the fact that he didn't try anything with me specifically says nothing about whether others were victims. Even serial killers don't murder everyone they interact with.

What these people say in retrospect is meaningless. They either did the right thing at the time or they didn’t. It isn’t about their fears or their feelings. They showed cowardice. You can call it motivated reasoning or purposeful blindness if you want. But I will not. It’s not the way I was raised and not the way I raised my children.

Yeah, I don't think the vast majority have that intent, but I think it's a pretty common sense outcome.

Captain obvious chiming in: If Paul's last name were Jones, there would not be an 11 page thread on it here. Because it is Pelosi, it became a lightning rod.

I don’t know. I heard Antifa did the molesting posing as OSU doc.
