On the road, do we fight from the tip like Oklahoma, or do we just shoot Ill advised threes? We have the team to take them down, the talent, but do we have the focus to play aggressive team ball and let the chips fall where they may. Thoughts!
We scored 16 points in the first half tonight, 12 vs TAMU. I believe both were low water marks since 1966. That can’t be a coincidence. The weird part is we scored 42 and 34 points in the 2nd half, so we Could have done better in the first half. So yeah if we would ever get serious from the tip, we could beat a lot of teams.
Whoever gave tonight's pre-game speech needs to be benched. lol This team is not a good 3-point shooting team so they need to stop settling for 3s and work harder to get better looks at the basket. The schedule doesn't get any easier from here with #4 Tennessee, Kentucky, and #2 Bama.
Well I watched most of their game with Oklahoma. They got taken to the woodshed. we played Oklahoma better. so if we come out tough with great defense and driving the ball to the hoop and playing team ball, which our offense in the first half looked like a repeat of the CMW teams, chucking a low percentage of threes instead of sharing the ball with an open teammate. Everyone standing around waiting for a pass to shoot from 35 or forty feet from the basket. No one getting the hoop. A recipe for getting behind early. Looking for answers/ ways to get this team to quit waiting till the second half to buckle up and fight, share your answer if you have one.
They are quick and like to run. Very good shooters. These are their strengths. Their weaknesses are not as physical as last year. If we come out feeling our way and getting behind, yes we are doomed. if we come out with great defense and playing team ball we can take them down. don’t settle for threes, drive the ball inside and setup teammates. This is our recipe for an upset!
We shut worse from 2 than from 3 in the first half, which is saying something. We just aren’t a good offensive team. Not enough good shooters OR finishers.
When we do drive, we try to force it in when the other is ready to KO anything we put up. If a player sees this, he should also be looking for an outlet. CC is one who comes to mind many times in this situation. Like his breakaway him driving all the way to the hoop, whoops, they took it away from me. Him trying to hard to be seen as NBA ready. Kugel gets to the rim a lot and gets blocked or misses his shot. Just a freshman who will learn to take it hard to the hoop with vengeance, either make it or get foul shots. keyontae always did this and it was one of his best traits. kowacie is learning also. These three are the ones who usually get close to the rim, Tre tries but being normal human size, he needs to shoot runners or mid range shots. against Tennessee, no one will be able to challenge the rim due to not being stout enough physically to do it. Understanding your best chance, not to score, but to help the team, would go a long way in getting better outcomes. This came about with CMW teams and is still in their mindsets. CTG needs to grade them on their poor decision making from not helping the team, ANALYTICS!
Well, they came out angry against Vandy tonight and are leading 43-15 at the half. Maybe they won't still be so angry when they play us on February 8th.
My wife didn't care to watch Bangers beating up on Vandy laying bricks. Turned on TCU and WV. Much better. Cool court at TCU.
Oklahoma muscled them out of the comfort zones in the first half while getting to a good size lead. The second half they kept pouring in shots both inside and out. Their best game they have played this year. That’s what it is going to take and with our coach getting with the refs early and often.
