Making it worse, the police chief says they can not substantiate probable cause for the arrest… From CNN… “Davis said that police have not been able to find anything that’s substantiated the probable cause for reckless driving by Nichols before his fatal encounter with police. “We’ve been unable to substantiate that at this time,” Davis told Lemon. “That was why he was supposedly stopped at the beginning.”
It wasnt a new rule. It was a reinstitution of an old one that had slipped through the cracks. It was a problem on the sports side too at times. Monk can post what he wants. Just needs to have some dialog.
Soho - Agree, props to the city - I think they are handling this pretty well: Charged and arrested the perps (cops) whom did it. Out front about what happened. Are pubicly sympathetic to the victim. I hope that local church leaders and those activists that are resonable reach the public and advise them burning and looting is not the proper response to this situation. The City and Gov't are addressing this properly. Hope people stay resonable and safe.
It's kind of funny, but these riots, sorry protests, as reactions to instances where the local police department handles things correctly just set a precedent that the best thing to do would be to cover it up. After all, either way randoms from out of town will come burn down your downtown, why not at least try to make it where nobody finds out?
I think you know the answer to your own question. Allaying crime with another crime ................ perhaps not the best option.
I can always count on the unhinged right to come up with the absolute worst take on well any subject.
No, it definitely isn't, but my point is if you want to encourage good behavior you don't punish it. There are enough bad people out there who would try to cover things up, why give them more reasons to do so? Act like adults.
It's not a bad take, it is correct. It sucks, but it is still correct. If I punish my kid for not cleaning his room by taking away his toys, and then punish him again next week for cleaning his room by taking away his toys, he's not going to clean his room. It's just basic logic. Anyone who commits any single act of violence at one of the protest should be jailed and prosecuted to the absolute fullest extent of the law, and additional charges for inciting violence and anything else that will stick should be added. And before someone tries to derail this with a January 6th riot reference I feel the same about that.
The unhinged right does not comprehend basic logic. But they like to think they do. Don’t get me started on honor and decency among the American far right. It doesn’t exist.
Anyone who commits any single act of violence at one of the protest should be jailed and prosecuted to the absolute fullest extent of the law Hey, I don't disagree with that. Oddly after the Floyd murder conservatives seemed to suggest progressives on this board were supportive of the riots. I don't accept that "branding". Speaking as a progressive I most certainly was not. Arrest any looter or violent person! One should also consider that extremist elements on the right and left both have trained, financially supported operatives that, more and more often, are willful participants in creating an explosive enviroment meant to incite the very violence of which you speak. If you do not think right wingers are involved in this kind of criminality at these riots to push an agenda.......do some research. Having said that there are some serious cultural issues that are not being handled properly in our country. Floyd should not thave been choked to death by police in full view of the public, even if he did steal something or cause a disruption at the store. Police and commercial businesses should not have to suffer the destruction and hatred of mob violence.
So who are cities preparing to have riot as a result of an injustice that is being correctly dealt with, the far right? This is a really bad attempt to deflect from what I'm saying, which is that my take isn't bad, it is correct, no matter how unfortunate that is.
Why do you guys keep bringing up right and left here? I don't really care if we're talking riots about police violence (whether correct or incorrect), election fraud (whether correct or incorrect), or because Walmart has TVs for $12 on Black Friday. If you are caught perpetrating any remotely violent act at a riot you should be persecuted as if your act was successful (ie... hit someone with a bike lock and be charged with murder) AND charged with rioting, terrorism, and whatever else we can fit. At some point these people have to grow up and realize that nobody will care about their beliefs and points if they act like 12 year olds.
Because dopy, we are a multicultural country with many value sets. We are not all worker bee's from the same hive if you have not noticed.
Is it? You hacking into the mod forum? Got a mole in there? It wasn't just libs that had complaints about it. Full disclosure, many of us still thought it was a rule and the repeated violation of the supposed rule got our attention. Look, OPs with no commentary are the board equivalent of tossing a match in the woods, running away and hiding across the street to watch it burn. It's a good rule and people should be frustrated if it is broken.
It appears that 2 members of the Memphis Fire Dept are also under investigation. Also the Scorpion unit set up to patrol high crime areas will now be reviewed by an outside agency for excessive force. Parents are calling for it to be disbanded. Only in operation since 2021.
