This will stir Gator Nation up! Will the season go as Dooley suggests? I agree with him in most cases, Florida is the better team, but will they play like it? Florida Football: 12 ways Gators can win every game in 2023
Great article. I'll start by boldly predicting Florida isn't old enough or experienced enough yet to avoid a hiccup so maybe 11-1. LOL! I like the article in that all the games are winnable. I also agree that UcheaT is nowhere near a rivalry (for Florida that is . . vollies have been mortally jealous of our Gators since the 90s) and a lot remains to be determined otherwise on the schedule. I doubt Cam Rising will be so "rusty he isn't a major factor in Utah though. I want to see year-over-year improvement and I believe we will with the new recruits and portal transfers and staff continuity.
That’s what I’m thinking. We have the talent going in the right direction but our most talented group will be sophomores and freshman. It’ll be 24 before it really shows. Our juniors and seniors won’t be an elite group. Wins come from veterans.
A reasonable assumption and one I can live with, am in fact expecting. 23 gonna be another "wash" year. As long as coach keeps at it recruiting wise and keeps the ship afloat, CBN deserves showing off what he's got in 24.
And I, a forever optimist when it concerns my Gators, believe 2023 will not be a wash, I think we will see a lot of improvement, and agree with ET, at least 11-1 of course, I used to always pick undefeated seasons, but hasn't happened yet, but I see one in the future
MC - by Sept of every year I work myself up to believe we are headed to 15 - 0. Not a bad thing I guess. Hope is eternal.
Back, a long time ago, my brothers and I would pick win/loss records....one brother would always say " 7-4 or 8-3" ( back then only 11 games lol)...me...11-0
Offense will step back D will have to make a major step up though. Given where they’ve been it’s possible
Looking at where our roster was last year, I can’t see how anyone would expect us to win 10 games this year. We were in every game last year so we’re not as far off as people think by looking at our record but there’s still a lot to work on. Hopefully we get some nice surprises this year and we win eight games or so. There also might not be much difference in the quality of our team between six wins and nine wins. Those three teams that were talking about to change that record are not very good anyway
Indeed, totally different roster almost. Hopefully a wee bit more consistencey, especially on defense, propels UF to a winning record.
The office may take a step back when you just look at Richardson versus Mertz. It’s not beyond the realm of possibility that Mertz is a better quarterback this year than AR was last year. They are really wasn’t that good look at the stats. He couldn’t move the offense consistently. AR may be a great pro one day but we did not see that on the field last year. Other than the quarterback position, it would not be hard to be better
Our schedule is easier next year, but it's so hard to take a new QB and flip a switch. Defense should be very good, running game could be elite if we lean on it. My baseline is probably 7-5 to 9-3 but if Napier does better I'll be ecstatic.
I agree Wanne, I know some on the board will not agree with your post but at the end of the day, AR neither lived up to expectations nor was an effective QB. (effective in terms of being a top 5 SEC QB, he most certainly was not) Shane matthews hit it on the head for me, you have to be an effective passer in this leauge if you want to play QB and be successful. The results, speak for themselves. Why I was somewhat hopeful AR would come back, I am of the opinion the year of experience would have served him well had he come back. Oh well, Mertz is up and lets hope Mertz or somebody else surprises.
Keeping it real...I think we can reasonably expect to be 4-2 or 3-3 after the first six games. We should be able to beat the gimmes and Vandy at home, and I am hoping for a split between the KY/TN games. Then it gets really dicey. I think SC has our game circled after the trouncing we gave them in the SWAMP, so I am counting that game as a loss. With losses to UGA and LSU, our only hope is to squeak a win against a much improved Arky team to prevent a 4 game losing skid. So, somewhere between 3-7 or 5-5 going to MIZZOU. If the team is still fighting at that point, we could win the last two games and finish 7-5. We could also lose both games if the team has thrown in the towel and finish with a 3-9 record. I am remaining optimistic and hope we go 7-5 so CBN gets time to turn the ship around.
How is it easier? LSU, KY, Mizz, USCjr & Utah on the road. Along with improved FSU & TN at home… and UGA. Not sure how that’s easier.
