Alabama football, Nick Saban trail Kirby Smart, LSU's Brian Kelly

I found this article to be interesting in that you don't usually see any media in the State of Alabama doing anything other than genuflecting to Nick Saban.

Hopefully this is the type of thing that signals we are finally seeing the beginning of the end of Nick Saban's dominance of the college football.

We've already started to see the end of his dominance, while they still win a lot and are only 2 years off a title, they've definitely shown a pattern of slowing down. UA won titles in 2009, 2011, 2012, 2015, 2017, and 2020. Not only that but recently they've been flat out beaten by some teams, like UGA, LSU and Clemson whereas when UA lost in the first half of the 2010's it usually was an obvious fluke or a down game.

Well, perhaps there is only room for one, maybe two dominant teams in the SEC. If one rises (UGAG) then one must fall. LSU, UToothless pushing as well.

He just pulled the top class, they’ll be right there again next year.

I would bet the farm that he wins another one before walking away.

They should fire him so we can bring him as special teams coordinator...god knows we need one.

The worst thing about Saban is his comb over. Come on Nick, just shave it all off.

Wishful thinking. If either Metchie or Williams didn’t get hurt the UGA only has the 22 title. In fact, I’ll take it a step more, if that back up receiver makes one particular catch they probably would have put Georgia away even without Metchie and Williams.

The SEC will be dealing with Alabama for a while longer. It could be my hatred showing through but UGA has enjoyed a good bit of scheduling luck the last few years.

22 was supposed to see the greatest Bama team ever, remember all the preseason hype? And they had the best QB in the nation.

    Unbeatable? Hardly.

New QB coming in. We shall see.

While I celebrate the decline of Bama, if it means supplanting them with UGA, I will take Bama and Saban.

It’ll probably be with parts of this roster. He’s got the talent to do it now and just brought in another great number one class.

Not winning the national championship two years in a row and then bringing in the number one class is not signs of decline

True, nor is it a sign of invincibility.

Yeah I mean I never said that UA under Saban isn't still good, just that they're noticeably trending down and I posted facts that support it, such as less frequent championships, more losses, but there are also other facts like UA not even making the playoffs this year.

They do still lead in recruiting, but it's also worth noting that other programs have started using the Saban organizational model of tons of analysts and becoming foster homes for failed coaches who are great at certain aspects (see muschamp at Georgia).

In short the league is catching up. What made him great wasn't some unique coaching genius stuff but building an organization, which is something that can be copied provided you spend the money.

This is a good analysis. Bama is not in the least bit slowing down, others are just using the same model and have caught up.

Florida FSU and Miami missed a lot of titles in the 90s when they were probably the best team. Shit happens

Good thing is Saban never adapts or upgrades staff.

    Top class by far.
They have seven 5-stars and two 3-stars. The rest are 4-stars. That's some preposterous numbers. If Alabama is slipping, please grease me up.

We are in agreement on all of your points, but so far no one has been able to sustain, though UGA looks like they are there. Clemson had some great teams, but they are still up and down.

While you are correct that they didn’t make the playoff this past season, I think we can both agree that if you take the politics out of the selection then UA was the second best team out there.

In short, they aren’t really going anywhere soon but like it was with Bowden, and Spurrier, his age and recruiting will suddenly catch up. Of course in this new horsecrap world of NIL, they will just buy recruits.
