    Florida says AP class teaches critical race theory. Here's what's really in the course
    "There's nothing particularly ideological about the course except that we value the experiences of African people in the United States," Christopher Tinson, the chair of the African American Studies department at Saint Louis University, told NPR.
    * * *
    The purpose of the class is to introduce students to the experiences and contributions of African Americans through a variety of lenses. "We didn't want to just focus on slavery, although slavery is a part of it," Tinson said. "We wanted to give a comprehensive view of the culture, literature, historical development, political movements, social movements."

    Tinson said the course will explore the origins of the African diaspora to Reconstruction, the Harlem Renaissance, the Civil Rights movement, and then some. It will also examine historical trailblazers like Valerie Thomas, a scientist who invented the illusion transmitter.

    He is particularly excited for students to have a fuller grasp of the Haitian revolution, which Tinson argues tends to be underrepresented in history classes compared to the American and French revolutions despite being the most successful slave revolt in world history.

    Seems a better decision would have been to let individual counties decide if they wanted to include the pilot course in their AP programs.

    Maybe even leave it up to individual schools as they know their student population and faculty. But that wouldn't have gotten the nationwide buzz that was sought.

    LOL… when has DeSantis ever allowed for local control to override his demands?

    Not really surprising as this is the beginning of the pilot. It takes College Board years to get a course up and running. When the class that I teach underwent a rewrite (AP US Government) it took five years to put together the new curriculum and pilot it in select schools.

    TBH, I suspect that there was push back from others that didn't trumpet it in a news conference.

    This hyperventilation by the liberals just continues to boost DeSantis. Keep it up. This is a minor issue that would work itself out that is being made a big winning issue for DeSantis.

    Sure ... I mean ... nevermind that Atlanta, Philly, Detroit, and Milwaukee just literally decided the last presidential election, I'm sure stuff like this will be a big winner for him if runs for president.

    Any pub is going to be in trouble going forward in the general election as purple/blue states got bluer as many left them for better situations in places like Florida.

    DeSantis will be fine though. Thankfully have him here in Florida.

    That is one ignorant cartoon. But DeSantis appreciates the overreaction. He is on the side on the side of the majority and common sense. Just like the Parental Rights Bill.

    When you say "majority" has there been a poll on the issue that you can link to, or are you just talking about racial majority?

    I think he means DeSantis won an election in Florida therefore the majority agree with all his decisions and actions

    No. Just agreeing with how you feel about yourself.
