Of course we were. I expected to see him getting better at playing qb every week. At the end of the year, all we had was an athlete trying to play qb and not really pick it up.

Playcalling and execution to be is at least as important as whatever system is being run. You can have all the talent and scheme in tge world but if defense usually has a good idea what’s coming, that’s a big disadvantage. Next, it has to be executed by all 11 guys consistently. Playcalling and execution please and no false starts for gods sake. Tebow’s offense wasn’t some mind blowing secret schemes, they just kept defenses off balance and executed.

I feel like it’s obviously him trying to build confidence in AR, which AR clearly lacked. Kept trying to make himself into what NFL scouts wanted to see instead of making winning plays. Opposite of Tebow

I get the obvious motivational ploy I just thought the expression was a bit much in that it was hyperbole that could give fans and media something to latch on to later on. Hell, people here still can't get over Muschamp saying "tweaked his knee" ten years later. Same with Mac and "clarabelle." Fans and media will use anything to tear someone down.

Driskel had 3 OCs in his time here, left and tore it up at LA tech.

to be fair, the competition a qb faces ar LA tech is not the same as UF/SEC. But I do get the point.

Not to beat a dead horse but would anyone think that the UF version of Driskel would ever make a roster in the NFL let alone hang around as a backup for nearly ten years?

Yeah! And what about the UF version of Jacoby Brisset? Two NFL QBs were both on the roster at UF and Muschamp played a running QB that struggled to complete passes! That's why every time this board starts pleasuring itself over the next great running QB coming to UF it makes me cringe.

It's just bizzare that we have mismanaged Qbs for so long now. A running QB could be a good thing in Meyer or Mullens offense but driskel was a terrible fit with muschamp. In hindsight Brisset may have been a viable option under Champ if there was such a thing.

There in NO qb option who could ever succeed under Nochamp's watch. None. Zero. Not Montana, Unitas, Tebow, Brady, Danny....not even Skyer Morninglorystarshine.

Interesting article that expresses my feelings. To use a baseball analogy, we need a homerun hitter at quarterback and Mertz is not! To take this a bit further, I could get excited about McCall or Pratt being our qb. I will go so far as to say that Billy better not bet his salary on the present quarterback room, because I will have a hard time remaining positive. I just don't see a better record in 2023, if the quarterback room does not change. Okay, I will say this with more intensity, I hope for continuity of the Gator football program, Billy makes it the top priority to go after the nextest and bestest quarterback available, because, otherwise, his tenure is at stake here!!! Just saying!

It can’t just be Graham Mertz or bust for Florida at QB … right?

Ha, ha, I was going to edit my last post.to also say, y'all go easy on me, I am just being transparent, and Lizard, you beat me to the draw! I am usually very optimistic about my Gators, but I am not enthused with who we have at qb; even if Rashada had not jumped ship!

To be fair to Jacoby, he really didn’t get much of a shot.

I understand the fascination with players who are built like Gronk, run like a deer and can throw a football 90 yards in the air.
But possessing all of the above attributes does not make a quarterback.
