Classified documents found at Pence home

    https://www.cnbc.com/2023/01/24/classified-documents-found-at-mike-pence-home.html

Lawyers for former Vice President Mike Pence said a "small number" of classified documents were found at his home in Indiana last week.
Pence's lawyers notified the National Archives and Records Administration of the discovery on Wednesday, according to a letter obtained by CNBC. The news was reported earlier by CNN.

Largely true. He is cooperating. There is no sign that he intentionally did this. So there likely won't be charges against him.

Those are actually the differences with Trump's case, where he did not cooperate despite being told that there were documents there that shouldn't be there, which made their presence at Mar-a-Lago intentional after he was informed, at the minimum.

This is a much closer analogue to Biden's situation than Trump was.

I would highly recommend to the cast of characters claiming how terrible Trump was about the docs to do a google search on the timeline of the docs saga with Trump. When you take away all the partisan rhetoric and just look at timeline, it is not nearly as nefarious as you try to make it. Was Trump just like, ok here you go, no but that is not Trump. Did he have his lawyer filing motions, yes but that is Trump, he is a lawyer's best friend because he uses one for everything!!! I am not saying this exonerates Trump by no means but there was a lot more conversation and negotiation going on than what most of you will admit.

Noticeably missing, the letter signed by Trump's attorney in June stating that he had no additional classified documents when he did (as would have been obvious from any sort of basic search of the documents). Also noticeably missing, that Trump himself chose to exclude those remaining documents from what was sent back to the government initially, which included the classified documents.

Definitely a chance that he would be. Many people get offers to plea to life sentences in prison if they are willing to cooperate and outline their crimes.

I'll even add one on for you: if he hadn't intended to kill people, he also would likely not be in prison any longer. But that isn't true of Bundy.

I didn't say it exonerates him, but the fact that he is claiming he returned all classified docs and he, which he had the power, unclassified what he had kept may be of note. Like I know, he can't just decide something is not classified after the fact, but is there any way to prove that he didn't unclassified what he kept before he left office?

Well, for one, that there isn't a single piece of documentation that he declassified any of this stuff. His argument is that he declassified them in his head. Of course, this is ridiculous as an explanation as it would make it impossible to know for each future administration what is and isn't classified, essentially nullifying the law.

Like I said, I'm not trying to exonerate him, but we can both play the game. You have no proof he did or did not declassify the docs he had. Nobody does!!

Not true. There is a two-step declassification process. Had Trump begun the declassification process, there would be some record of this occurring. There is none. And after Jan 20, 2021, Trump became a regular citizen again, and lost all ability to declassify anything.

And yes, had Trump cooperated, different story. Often the case for any criminal. If they cooperate, they often get a deal for a lesser charge and lesser sentence. It's called plea bargaining. Happens all the time. And the DOJ precedence in classified leakage cases is little or no charges with full cooperation and no intent to do damage.

The lack of documentation is the proof that he didn't.

conversations and requests were being ignored, documents were being moved and left unsecure. and they knew these were recent, top secret documents, not low level classified docs from 5 years ago. Big difference. DT is a lawyer's worst friend becaus eevery lawyer he has hired has eneded up in legal trouble themselves with one now stuck with a $1M fine jointly assigned to the atorney and DT. DT will refuse to pay like he always does and lawyer will have to pay to keep from losing their law license.

he has to follow cerain steps to declassify documents. the record is clear that he did not do any of those steps. there is no doubt on this issue other than that in DT's head

The absence of documentation that he declassified them would be readily available if he followed the procedures to declassify the documents. Any reasonable person can infer that the fact that Trump failed to provide documentation that he declassified the documents is evidence in and of itself that no such documentation exists.
