Is the 2023 Roster Still Better than What Billy Inherited?

Only thing wrong is Rashada and that’s not completely or maybe not at all on Napier.

 

At no point did I blame Napier. For either QB. In fact I said I wasn't asigning blame at all. I was extremely clear about that.

 

Fair enough I had not heard that. I guess it QB situation is fine as is.

 

I am not a troll fellas, just a guy offering a different opinion. Napier basically runs the pre-Kiffin Bama offense. Saban is on record as saying he knew he needed to adapt or else. He did, Napier hasn’t. Georgia does not run the same offense, there are some similarities but they could probably run the wishbone and have success with all the talent they have in that program. And since you brought up the b2b champs, how about my point on hiring elite staff?? Lanning is hired away last year and had a great year at Oregon. Shuermann and Monken will probably both be hired away this year. They have coaches that other programs want. Are any Florida coaches on anybody who else’s radar?? Not even close. We have a head coach in over his head who’s surrounded by a bunch of yes men and you guys don’t see a problem? He needs to look in the same mirror Dabo finally did, get rid of his buddies and bring in program changing guys like the Garrett Riley’s of the world before it’s too late. Georgia was more than a 3 TD favorite this year. And I think the last thing somebody questioned was on recruiting, 247sports had Mullens 4 years ranked 14,9,9,12. They had Napier at 18 and 13. Please stop saying Mullen didn’t bring in any talent.

 

Well I guess not knocking down our door is a little harsh when last month we had Rashada and Lagway and it looked really strong. Not much we can do at this point. Metz was probably a placeholder for Rashada and now he’s gone. We are in an uncomfortable spot. Mertz didn’t come here to not have a shot. If we took the lsu kid which Napier probably would have, maybe Mertz moves on. We may be a body short next year as it is. Somebody may leave after spring. It’s a touchy situation created by the Rashada situation. Good chance we don’t have both Miller and Mertz next year. Sure, it’s a mess.

 

Grossly UNINFORMED. Kirby’s first year was a train wreck. So was Saban’s. And your comments on the recruiting is way off the mark. Mullen vs Nape recruiting isn’t even debatable. This class’s talent average is the highest it’s been in 13 years. And Mullen’s classes always had a handful of guys that never even made it to their freshman season. He was lazy on the trail, didn’t put in the work and the product you’ve been watching on the field the last 2 years is the result of it. You really should do more homework before making any more comments.

 

It’s not. But with the Rashada situation this is where we are for now. All I was trying to get across is that Napier didn’t create the mess. But he has a lot to clean up …and it was never going to happen in 1 year …or 2 for that matter.

Well, keep in mind how many of those players left or were dismissed before even playing a down. Also some did not qualify.

 

Because we regularly have a new coaching staff rebuilding the roster.

Can't compare a high staff turn over school with a established successful coach like Saban or Smart.

 

And that's becoming a big problem for this program, which cannot seem to catch its footing anymore.

Saban's first class at Bama was 7th ranked in the SEC. His second was #1 in the country despite a 7-win season.
Smart's first class at Georgia was 5th in the SEC. His second was #3 in the country (#2 in SEC) despite an 8-win season.

Like it or not, this is how football championships are won. Guys come in and very quickly bring in top-ranked classes.

Brian Kelly's second class is #3 in the SEC / #5 overall whereas Napier sits at #14/#6 respectively.

Job #1 is bring in the players. The best coach in the world doesn't cut it without that.

 

Grossly UNINFORMED?? I should’ve started with this….I was 100% in on the Napier hire. Thought it was a home run. Even liked it more than the Kelly hire at LSU. Flew down for the Utah game, best game I’ve ever been to, place was electric. QB played great, D held a high powered Utah team to 26. Coaches pushed all the right buttons. Guys played with passion for 60 minutes. Gators were back!…and then I watched the next 11 games and I saw a guy who’s about to be picked in the first round in a couple months get worse with each snap. I saw a D give up 31 I a LOSS to VANDY. I saw countless slow substitutions and poor clock management from the staff. And most importantly, I saw a team quit before the season was over. How some of you guys are okay with this I’ll never understand it. I am a new poster here, but that doesn’t make what I’m saying any less true.

 

Again. I have stated on numerous occasions...I did not asdign blame to Napier. Not even once.

 

I read a stat on here a couple days ago that Richardson between one and 9 yards was like 33% or something? That’s the basis for an offense.

 

I'm not sure how long you've been watching college football, but ... there's a truism you have to accept: transition years cannot be judged like this. Kirby Smart barely beat Nicholls State in year 1. Nick Saban lost to Louisiana Monroe in year one.

First years are always messy. If it's like this next year, sure. You'll have a larger audience. But anyone who's watched CFB for awhile knows this is how it goes.

Outside of the bowl game, when did you see the team quit during the game?
I don't recall that.

 

I will let the two of you fight over the merits of his statements. I am in wait and see mode for the next couple seasons.

But I think he said before season was over not before games were over. I believe he is stating that the team played harder at beginning of season then they did at the end.

Again, I am not taking a side on this.
