Step aside Tinky Wink, Tucker Carlson has something new to be outraged over.

This time it’s the purple M&M … and the green one…

I would have thought this was the onion… buts it CNBC.

M&Ms says it's pulling its beloved 'spokescandies' after right-wing outrage over shoes, gender

Candy maker Mars said Monday it is replacing its M&Ms “spokescandies” with actress Maya Rudolph after facing right-wing criticism over its mascot makeover.

The spokescandies are a team of cartoon M&Ms mascots that have represented the brand in commercials and other marketing materials since 1960. Early last year, the candy brand updated the cartoons and its marketing, rebranding each mascot with a new backstory, clothing and personality to be more inclusive.

The green M&M, for example, had previously drawn criticism for being marketed as too sexy, so the company switched out her knee-high heeled boots for sneakers and put more emphasis on her feminist values. “Orange” became a mascot riddled with anxiety, and the company added a new purple M&M, which was designed to represent inclusivity.

The rebrand caught the eye of conservatives, including Fox News host Tucker Carlson, at the time of the update and again in recent weeks, with some claiming the makeovers were another example of a liberal agenda gone too far.

Pretty sure this is some kind of stunt that will tie into a Super Bowl ad, hopefully the first lesbian candy wedding on TV

The statement from Mars seemed playful. Sounds like this is just marketing and not caving to right wing pressure. I don't think we've seen the end of the spokescandies.

This has been a confusing controversy. So guys like Tucker - who generally think our society is over-sexualized - were upset that the candy mascots were not sexy enough? That justifies "cancel culture"? Or did I miss something else?

Don't get mired down in the details. The important thing to understand here is that the woke culture is trying to control you.

Don't believe me? Eat a purple M&M and try to not turn gay.

Is there really people upset with M&M commercials? I doubt it is serious, I can think of dozens of commercials I would be upset over before I would object to a candy commercial.
Screw the candy commercials, bring back Aunt Jemima if you want to make me happy.

A lot of damn rules to follow in order to eat M&Ms that the culture overlords approve of.

Pretty sure they arent pulling this campaign because of Tucker etc. Either market research shows it it losing market share or this is a stunt. Marketing depts care about one thing and it ain't making the Tuckster grumpy.

Look at all the free press M&M's are getting because they are pulling an ad campaign. Didn't have to spend a dime, and they are the front page of almost all major news outlet web pages. That's good Marketing right there...and your answer.

I don't follow pop culture and don't watch TV so I didn't know who Maya Rudolph is. So, I googled her and found that she is Minnie Riperton's daughter.

Minnie was born in Chicago and died in LA very young. She had breast cancer and it metastasized.
Here is the weird part. Maya was born in Gainesville in 1972.

    (Wikipedia)
Rudolph was born on July 27, 1972, in Gainesville, Florida,[4] to singer-songwriter Minnie Riperton and composer Richard Rudolph.

Anyone have any idea why Minnie and her husband happened to be in Gainesville at that time?

I can't access it but think you, or someone with an Orlando Sentinel subscription, will find the answer here. Maya comes home for her new comedy
