Story does not say anything close to what the thread title says.

A couple of missing pieces of context:

    1. Deripaska employed Manafort for more than a decade, and Manafort gave him private briefings on the Trump campaign and sent him the internal polls run by the campaign (the totality of which are generally not shared with anybody but the closest allies of a campaign as they provide extremely important information as to the strategy of the campaign).
    2. While this allegedly corrupt agent was unsuccessful in pulling off his personal sanctions, the Trump administration did pull off the sanctions on his businesses, letting him do business in the US.

One of the articles he posted said he was arrested, but the Post article says he wasn’t charged. Fickle.

Actually maybe the original poster is on to something albeit unintentionally. Perhaps the New York Field Office failed to find substantive evidence of Russian collusion because the Russians already a mole in the office and not just an ordinary mole but one who held a high level position in the Office's Counterintelligence Division. If there is a link between McGonigal and the investigation of Russian Collusion as the original poster seems to imply in the title of this thread maybe that's it.

The Post article was written in September. It is about the investigation into his ties with Russia.

The dirty secret. Lots of these big wigs “consult” for foreign governments. From Flynn to the FBI. Much like the Head of DEA diversion was hired by the pain pill folks.

It should all be illegal. Much like Hunter, they are hired for influence and it is wrong.

And did that article say he helped lead the investigation or did it say that he was one of the first who came upon some info that sparked the investigation?

Anyway you want to twist this, it's a bad look for the FBI, and it gives the right yet another reason to blast that agency, which may be the purpose of the OP.

I think it was the NY field office that got all hot and bothered about the Clintons after an anti Clinton documentary came out and they wanted to investigate. I think this says like everywhere else, the FBI is not monolithic and has people with diverse views and motivations, including those that will play both sides of the fence for presumably selfish motives.

The FBI’s New York field office was one of a few that — in at least some small way — were looking into topics that touched on the Clinton Foundation’s work, according to people familiar with the matter. Agents in New York wanted to examine allegations of corruption and conflicts of interest that have swirled around the charitable organization of the Clinton family, the people said.

The proper headline here is "FBI Agent that helped falsely clear Trump of Russian collusion guilty of Russian collusion himself."

The right will blast the FBI for being on the payroll of the same Russian oligarch as Trump's campaign manager?

The FBI wasn't. A rogue agent might have been. Generalizations are for those to lazy, or partisan, to examine further.

Who does the right not trust, the FBI agents being paid by Russia or the ones not being paid by Russia?
