#1 Houston lost, 56-55, at home to Temple, who came limping in at 11-9. Houston outplayed Temple in every meaningful stat except free-throw shooting, where they shot a rotten 52% to Temple's 91%.
    No win is a given.

    Amen.

Our next opponent, USCe, is horrible and yet they beat Clemson (8-1 in the ACC) and Kentucky at Rupp.

True - let's see how our guys handle recent success. Gotta take care of business and can't afford a letup at this juncture in the season.

See, those two wins tell me that USCe is not in fact horrible. Their record just isn't good. All the teams in the SEC have athleticism and can beat you on any given day.

Basketball is such an intriguing sport. Matchups and style of play is much more of an indicator of success against an opponent than each other’s win/loss record.

Agreed, which is what makes March madness so mad. A 32 team NBA single elimination tourney wouldn't be as crazy and unpredictable because there's less variety in matchups and style.

That seems especially true this year. Kinda explains all the upsets we’ve seen. That and teams not being able to hoard players, as much as they once did.

Georgetown / Villanova or Houston / NC State always comes to mind.

I think this combined with the Transfer Portal impact. The portal has clearly helped some teams but it also has slowed the cohesiveness on some other teams - especially when competing against a team who has been together for a while.

My memory was that Nova shot 80% for the game and only won by 2. That still is hard to understand.

I’ve always considered the NBA to be five one-on-one games played simultaneously on the same court. To me college basketball is much more interesting.

Nova was a huge underdog that got super hot. The shooting made up for all the mismatches.

I've never looked at SC as a guaranteed win, Frank Martin or not. Like any SEC game, home or away, it will be a battle

In the old NBA yes...the modern NBA has some incredible ball movement and passing. We can thank the Euros and other international teams giving us the business in the early 2000s for making that happen, not to mention the league allowing zone defenses now

They only took 28 shots, played with a super controlled tempo, and worked to get perfect shots every time. They only took 10 shots in the second half and made 8...was a little before my time but done my research as a coach on "How to beat a superior team in a big game"

And it was the 4th time they played Georgetown, they were 0-3 previously against them that year.

Point being, they had familiarity playing the Hoyas. Regarding your 80% comment and winning by 2 - Because Georgetown was am exceptionally good team.
