I have a condo in Florida. It's just sad to see what he's doing to my home state.

Many who say good things about him don't live here either. And people praise or bash AOC or MTG who don't live in those places. Politics has probably become more nationalized than ever. On top of that, DeSantis has a good chance of being the next GOP nominee, and he's worked hard to get his national exposure.

I live in Florida. He's a menace who pisses all over the Constitution on a routine basis. I think it's sad that his supporters are just fine with that.

If the head of that state was the current leading candidate for the dem party nominee and he/she was the leading candidate for potus while pushing extreme positions, you might care. 7th gen cracker and I hate seeing the executive overreach of either party. DeS is stomping on our constitution and our rights to pander to far right religion and the liguslature and the courts are letting him. That lack of check and balances should concern everyone

Speaking for myself, I lived most of my life in FL. Taught in FL schools for 10yrs + a few years teaching at UF, not to mention my degrees. I have family there. Those are the reasons that DeSantis's policies matter to me.

Guess we're just different then. I care about what happens in Florida because I'm from there and I still spend a great deal of time there. As for other states, I care what happens in the US as a whole. Stuff like abortion. When a state takes away the right of a woman to decide what she does with her own body I care about stuff like that.

My ancestors lived in Florida before it was a state, starting in the 1820s. I was born and raised in Florida and have lots of problems with what Ron is doing.

I get it I care too but if you want to use abortion as a what if OK (honestly it isn't my decision it's a woman's decision I don't have any say in abortion)

As far as Florida i care about it a lot and Ron had done a pretty good job so far a lot better job than a crack head prostitute probably would have maybe not the best job but still pretty good my 60 Head of cattle and my business has done VERY well

I was born here as was my father before me. Now, what do you think about his proposal to not allow businesses to require masks?

I think no one should be able to mandate anyone to wear a useless mask

I think it is individualism as RD puts the choice in the hands of the person(s) themselves. Can’t get any more individual than that.

Sure, like how a kid wants to study in the accelerated honors course focusing on African-American studies? Or the scared, pregnant girl who chooses to get an abortion? Or the local business who chooses to ensure the employees treat everyone with kindness and respect and expend the time to train its employees, but can’t do so because DeSantis doesn’t allow it? Or the private business and and its customers who want that extra degree of safety and only want to be around others who are masked? Or the elected public servant who chooses to exercise his right of free speech, only to be fired as a direct result? Or the large private business that disagrees with the Governor’s laws and speaks out against the law to assuage its employees and customers that it has their back (only to be retaliated against by the same governor)?

Just a few “freedoms” and “choices” that no longer exist in our land of DeSantistan.

Would you have a problem with a governor mandating that every business requires masks regardless of the science or a governor firing conservative school boards across the state and replacing them with LGBTQ people? Look past the decision and look at the assumption of authority and ask yourself if you would be okay with a liberal governor mandating their goals over the entire state regardless of whether it is legal or not. How about a governor requiring completion of a critical race theory class to graduate high school? Maybe one that mandates that in god we trust be removed from the pledge in state schools.

You seem to be okay with authoritarianism as long as the decisions agree with you but how would you feel about the same concentration of power if you disagreed with the decisions?

I'm not okay with that concentration of power and abdication of legislative/legal responsibility from our other two branches of gubmnt. Our entire system of checks and balances is breaking down over tribal lines independent of the law or the constitution and that isn't good regardless of which tribe you cheer for.

And no, elections aren't meant to give all the power and authority to one group regardless of the vote. Protection of the minority and legal protection for individual rights is what makes our system work. Removing that turns us into a dictatorship.
