Like average star rating and balanced classes where fill all position needs. Billy did well in terms of average star ranking this class, but not sure balance was achieved would provide a D for recruiting over the 2 year period at QB, which is the most important position on the college team. Would provide Needs Improvement grade at TE, Offensive Tackle, and outside rush LB
The path to success is the Defense. I have a good feeling about the OL and the running game despite losing some linemen.
We saw what he recruited on the field and they weren’t good.Torrence is the only surefire nfl guy of the bunch on the field last year and he came with Napier.
I do not disagree with your comment. However, lets clarify the QB position. AR going to the NFL was to be expected. The lost of Jalen Kitna cannot be put on Napier. As usual, very few Freshmen get meaningful plays on the field. This past season their were only 20 Napier recruits on the roster. Some of those players got meaningful playing time. In other words, you were too early to judge. Give this class another look in the 2023 season. If they are learning and competitive, the will get their chances on the field.
Qb has been some bad luck, Napier put the work in but sometimes things go sideways anyway.Hopefully Bordingham steps up this year as he was ir all year last year. Offensive line recruiting is suspect until we see it happen. We didn’t bring in elite recruits there but offensive linemen can easily develop . To me, they are almost impossible to predict. I do think we got a couple edge rushers though. We got some good db’s and I believe they will be a huge upgrade over what we had. The only problem with that is, they won’t learn the system and be ready to play sec football in six months. The portal guys will plug in to fill the voids until they are ready. Our portal guys don’t seem to be elite either.
I’m saying the Mullen guys sucked. Napier had a small class and they looked like the better players on the field.
I get it that in the end all results fall on Billy but he had two borderline 5 star QBs lined up and they both missed the class for very odd reasons
Del Rio was also on the team. Transfer. THE question asked- is this roster better than inherited. At the QB position right now, it’s objectively worse. Now, before spring practice but in Mertz I trust Also go back and read my last sentence
Did Mullen ever sign 17 4* recruits in one class? Napier did it with a 6-6 record. Mullen’s classes came off 10 win seasons. Napier ain’t building fool’s gold.
Actually he did in 2020. Though 5 of them never made it to the fall season. As I stated in a post earlier, Mullen chose the recruiting path of least resistance. Academic non qualifiers, sexual predators, immigration issues, misfits etc. you name it. If you wanted to come to UF and I don’t have to put much effort in trying to lure you here … “come aboard son. Welcome home”. I’ll just design a game plan and scheme my way around all the flaws. Well, it caught up with him. Those that are arguing otherwise, must not follow recruiting that closely and are obviously uninformed.
I think Mullen had some real problems recruiting, but we got legit good players who for the most part made it to the field. There were a few 4* and 5* that left, but that happens with almost any class. I think our worst was 2019, where I think 4/15 4- or 5- star guys didn't play for us. That's not especially bad, to bring 11 bigtime recruits and have them play. I think Mullen's biggest issue was balanced recruiting.
Not sure who those bigtime recruits were on the field the last two years. Mullen nor Napier could win with them. Mullen had some talent from Mac but when he had all his guys, things went way downhill
You're really touting the "mirage classes" that were chock full of non-qualifiers, "undersized tweeners" chronic attitude problems and lower avg. player ratings across the board? Those classes? You know... the ones that helped define just how totally useless initial class ratings by third parties actually are. I mean, seriously?
Well, I'm definitely sold on the idea of getting rid of the Mullet's sorry butt - and the collection of misfits and slackers he left behind. I will agree though that anyone who has absolutely made up his mind on BN, one way or the other, is either doing so on faith, or in some instances the lack thereof. As you say, time will tell.
No one is saying that. But some of you are just reaching to find shit wrong with him. He is not a smoke & mirrors guy. He has been a straight shooter since day 1. He’s more like Muschamp than Mac or Mullen …only WAY more organized and with thicker skin. No one can guarantee he will be “the guy” but some of the arguments people are throwing out there are just stupid.
Neither of them winning doesn't mean we didn't have very good players. Kaiir Elam, Wright, Diabate, Zipperer, Umanmielen, Henderson, Pouncey, Mincey, Fraziers, AR, Torrence, Dexter, Desmond Watson and a few more are all 4+ star guys who had or have made significant impact on the field. Plus a number from the last class that were redshirted and will likely see the field next year. I think there's a chicken and egg issue - if we're losing we assume the guys were overrated. Not always the case. Mullen got good guys, but he didn't always distribute very well. We ended up with holes in some squads. Players leave. Happens to every school. It's easy to say "oh those classes were fake that's why we lost" but I think it's a lot more nuanced than that.
Sounds more like a differing opinion to me. Not sure why those get you so uppity. I agree with you, though, that Napier's recruiting seems to be more deliberate and targeted. Well, with the high school kids anyway. Not so sure the same can be said of the TP, especially at QB. Mullen also had the benefit of not going against Ruiz and his vendetta.
