This thread is initally being based upon this article and is meant to generate debate on what we have going forward. Thanks ETGator! The Gators’ 2023 roster is nothing like what Billy Napier inherited
I don’t know if it’s more talented but he’s bringing in more guys that want to be here and play for him. Just based on that it’s an improvement. I mentioned in another thread that he seems very specific & deliberate with the players he is going after. Very different from Mullen bringing anyone on board that allowed him to put in the least amount of work.
Don’t think we had kids that were all in in terms of work ethic and mentally. You heard a few of them state Bulky was more demanding of their time. Mentally they committed a lot of penalties as the season progressed and were happy losers. MT may be a good OT prospect but was always injured. White had trouble staying off field as well. Need players more committed to strength,,endurance that will fight to win/hate losing
I think a lot of guys were here because there was a lack of effort to recruit and many were in over their skis. Not all but a bunch were merely here. Now they aren’t.
Mullen’s last three classes were ranked #8, #7, and #10 (Rivals). Napier’s classes have been #20 and #14. (Ok, throw away his first class.) For someone who was indifferent to recruiting and someone who relishes it, I haven’t seen the improvement.
And mullen was a qb whisperer. SMDH. Mullen’s classes were smoke and mirrors and maybe appeared on campus. His offense was good when he had a Johnson, otherwise it lacked balls and was back to the spread with inferior athletes… lolz. No penetration. Just repeat I want to have hope I want to have hope I want to have hope while rubbing those OnB jorts . We will know this season if Napier has it or not. Sort of like Saban getting new coordinators. (Hint coach)
Mullen’s classes and those rankings are completely bs. Many of those kids responsible for those numbers never played a down. The ones that did end up playing weren’t very good either. Those classes are the garbage we’ve been watching the last few years. The class that just came in is missing a great qb no doubt but the rest are huge upgrades to the players they will be replacing. More talented this year? Absolutely but it won’t show on the field this year. These gifs are still in hs as we speak and some going through their first spring practice. There are a few freshman that make a difference but it’s usually the third year that a class makes their presence felt. Transfers will try to salvage some games next year. Recruiting won’t do much for a couple more years.
Unknown - they are probs going to add 5-6 more guys before it’s all said and done. Qb is worse. Ol is worse. Wr is probs better if freshmen pan out. Te still an unknown. Lb is still meh. No great edge rushers. I think DT is better. Rbs better but no depth. Dbs are light on experience but can’t be worse than last year. Just all a big ? Right now.
Online played better and I think will continue that trend. So I’d say oline better. Qbs worse as far as we can tell. Awesome dl class signed. lbs a wash. dbs will be better I assume?!? Wrs better. tes worse. he’s going to need another year to get us in a good spot.
Yes, I’m pretty sure he was. It’s just another uninformed & lazy point of view. From the type of people that can just read a headline and think they have all the details of the story. It gets old to try and teach others how to learn.
Rb room better WR - unproven but better on paper with FR OL- probably better but an oline needs 2 seasons TE/ a wash QB - worse Dline- losing Dexter alone means a drop there but the freshmen could be diff makers LB - losing Miller = drop on paper Secondary- wash Maybe ask this again midseason.
A future measuring stick for the Napier's players will be; players who play up to or exceed their star rankings, and players who do not exit for the Portal. A lot of Mullen's recruits did not meet this criteria.
