Torn Achilles. He is definitely out all year. When I saw that my reaction was great googly monogamy. Not good for our OT. Need at least Goodwin now.

Somewhat disagree on the QB component. TBH, AR's inconsistency and lack of accuracy in the short and intermediate passing game was as much a detriment in many instances as his great athleticism was an asset in others. I know some will disagree, but IMO, he frequently looked like he was more interested in avoiding injuries and preparing for the draft than in winning ballgames at UF. Not bashing the kid, but that's what it looked like to me. To the OP's conclusion; I agree that anyone expecting much more than improved teamwork, some promising flashes from the newer/younger players, and consistent, hard-nosed effort in every game is likely to be disappointed. I personally look for something like 5 to 7 wins in '23 with a significant improvement in '24. JMHO at this point. Obviously, we'll have a much better idea of what we have after spring practice and the spring transfer portal does whatever it does.

That was a pretty uninformed take on our recruiting class. The #13 ranking doesn’t tell the whole story. Even without Rashada the class is still the highest talent average we’ve signed in 13 years. And people keep forgetting, now that the all star games are over with, the player rankings will get shuffled again and in all likelihood should see Jackson, Norman, Kearney, Denson, Castell & EWlll get sizable bumps.

The dismissive way you mentioned the “culture” is puzzling as well. Especially when by all accounts nearly everyone agrees that it was awful in prior years.

Three years from now think we will be well positioned, but remember Kirby lost to UF when first at UGA. Takes time. This was Billy’s first full year recruiting class. Also some bad luck with regard to Stokes, Rashada and Kitna. Imagine how well we will do when Billy and staff have 3 years with kids, families and HS coaching staffs in Florida.

You are really uninformed about the recruiting class. Without Radhada we have 3 players that are 5 stars or on the cusp by one recruiting service or another. We have not had that for 8 years. We did not have to drag in non-qualifiers or injured or criminal background risks to get a decent ranked class. Our recruits showed out in all star games like they haven't since Urban's recruits. A huge upgrade in talent is occurring.

In the words of Daniel P. Moynihan:
'You are entitled to your opinion. But you are not entitled to your own facts.'
You note that the 2023 "class is still the highest talent average we’ve signed in 13 years" Don't think so. The 2023 class at the moment has total points of 266.61. The 2020 class was ranked 9th with total points of 273.10 and 2019 class had total points of 277.02. So despite Mullen's reputation for being a poor recruiter he was a bit better than Napier. Note the 2022 class which is in part on Napier's watch was ranked 18th with total points of 232.99. But let's not quibble over the facts. The most pressing concern is we go into the spring with J. Miller III and G. Mertz as our QB prospects... and we came up empty with a quality QB in draft or Portal. Tough to be optimistic.

Well done. Great points. One thing though....all this ranking stuff is subjective. None of us knows who will shine and who will tarnish. 3 years from now, this bump class could have 5-6 first team ALL SECs.

Fully agree, all subjective and based on talent level in mid to late teens. Trask is a great example of a diamond in the rough who was virtually unrecruited and turned out ok once given his opportunity.

Again, uninformed. I referenced talent average, which was much higher with this class @91.79 than any of Mullen’s. And 5 players from the class you referenced never made it to fall camp for various reasons which was a reoccurring theme with Mullen’s classes. It’s not even close. Anyone trying to argue that Mullen is a better recruiter is just off the reservation. Facts.

He’s missing that it’s a smaller class but napiers few recruits are ranked much higher.

Forget it: We're mixing apples and oranges here- let's see what happens when our new recruits work with the players that remain... and then the ultimate test.. performance on the field. Wins and losses. That will be the determining criterion as always. If you folks are pleased with the new staff and their outcomes, enjoy the product.

The only rational way to compare the actual relative talent of the classes you cited with this year's class is by avg. player ranking - which was the point being made by a previous poster. And when you throw in the mind-boggling attrition rates in most of Mullen's classes due to an army of non-qualifiers, sub-par talents, woman beaters, homesick Californians and one who left school under a cloud of serious allegations regarding a purported sexual assault, I can see why you don't care to quibble about the "facts." Although I'm in the "don't expect great things this year crowd", your assertion that DM was a better recruiter than BN is just outright horse hockey.

Gonna be major heat on Napier after this year and Lagway will only be a true freshman in Napier’s 3rd year. So, hard to imagine contending for anything. It is all about the QB position and defense…

There will only be heat on him from the loud Gator fans. The adults who understand the circumstances and write the checks knew this was a long term plan and expected to hit rock bottom. Year 4 will be the first year he starts to feel any heat only if the first 3 years are losing seasons. If we demand anything else we will just wash rinse repeat what we’ve done since Urban Meyer.

I largely agree with this, but I suspect the wails will be pretty deafening from the loud gator fans you are referring to. I disagree year 4 will be the first year he feels heat. The problem is these things become a self fulfilling prophecy. It is extremely difficult for a coach to build a program and get top notch kids in the door when fans are calling for heads to roll.

Some dumb fans with big mouths will surely be whining next offseason. I see 5-7 wins next year as doubt we beat any good teams.we do have a ton of new players and we could be better than I think. It’s not impossible that we win 8-9 but highly unlikely in my book. Our team was bad last year and we lost some talented guys. The talent we are getting from hs in going to take a few years to help. Napiers seat won’t even be getting warm from win:loss factors. The only think getting his seat warm anytime soon is players quitting on him or some type of scandle.
