    Taxpayer funded “savings accounts”?

    Commie Ron does it again!

But we know what these code words truly will end up meaning practice. Freedom to re-segregate with govt subsidy. That’s pretty much all this is about imo.

This probably deserves its own thread, but the federal judge (Hinkle) in the Andrew Warren case ruled that DeSantis violated both the federal and state constitution in removing Warren from office, but that he (Hinkle) doesn’t have the authority to reinstate Warren per the 11th amendment to the U.S. Constitution. In a nutshell, Hinkle seems to be ruling that this is a state matter, so it is up to the state courts to determine whether Warren or any other state official removed by a governor for no good reason is entitled to be reinstated. DeSantis’s office has called this a great victory despite the determination that DeSantis violated both the federal and state constitutions.

repaying donors at an unprecedented rate. gubmnt positions of authority openly for sale or used to openly punish anyone who opposes him. Orban would be proud

DeSantis has so far appointed more donors to political posts than Scott did (tampabay.com)

Gov. Ron DeSantis’ war chest is almost bottomless. And it’s padded with donations from officials he appointed to positions throughout the state.

While it’s common for governors to stack commissions, boards and task forces with their supporters, DeSantis has done so at a significantly higher rate than his predecessor, according to an analysis of campaign contributions and political appointments.

Since assuming office in 2019, DeSantis has accepted roughly $3.3 million in campaign donations from about 250 people he selected for leadership roles — a 75% increase in the number of donors appointed compared to former Gov. Rick Scott’s first term in office, and over 10 times the amount of money.
    ....................
“DeSantis probably more than any other Florida governor in recent history is overt about using his office to reward personal loyalty and allegiance and to mete out punishment and to ostracize those who are not with him,” Jolly said.

Funny how your preferred media source frames that. Here's what's really happening: The presidents are calling DeSantis's bluff. They have chosen their words very carefully. Very little, if anything, will change at the colleges. DeSantis will lose his battle against academic freedom in higher education, but will still claim victory.

Florida’s State Colleges Say They’ll Ban Promotion of Critical Race Theory

The presidents of Florida’s 28 state and community colleges said in a statement on Wednesday that they would identify and eliminate, by February 1, any academic requirement or program “that compels belief in critical race theory or related concepts such as intersectionality.”

Note the use of the words "compels belief in." Again, they are simply calling his bluff.

Judge Robert Hinkle of the Northern District of Florida said DeSantis did violate Warren’s First Amendment rights, but that it was “not essential” to the outcome.
Judge said it was wrong but outside of his purview to fix it. Does it matter to you that DeS is trampling all over constitutional rights of individualos to advance his agenda?
    from your press clipping drop

The Governor violated the First Amendment by considering Mr. Warren’s speech on matters of public concern,” Hinkle wrote.
The judge said DeSantis also violated Warren’s rights by considering his “alleged association with Mr. [George] Soros.

“The Governor violated the First Amendment by considering Mr. Warren’s association with the Democratic Party and alleged association with Mr. Soros as motivating factors in the decision,” he said.

Hinkle said the suspension violated the Florida Constitution.

I'm not surprised that DeSantis considers it a great victory. He has to be stoked that he's set a precedent that he can violate the Constitution and get away with it.

    His title is definitely clickbait.

Here is the mainstream saying and reporting the same thing at that time. Florida did the right thing here. This story is a win for DeSantis all day long!

Florida is the only state that hasn’t ordered Covid vaccines for kids under 5

so does the guy have a federal case for violation of his first amendment rights?

and even though the judge says it violates the state constitution, he has no authority over it?

    don't understand

He's basically punting. Reinstating Warren would mean removing the crony DeSantis put in his place. The federal judge doesn't want to do that, so he's basically telling Warren he needs to go to the Florida state courts.

Is reinstatement the only remedy? His opinion seemed very clear. Is that strong of an opinion usually offered with rulings or am I the only one surprised at his statements?

This isn't the first time Judge Hinkle has done something like this. When he sees something wrong but doesn't feel it's his place to intervene (for whatever reason), he'll issue a strong opinion and then punt on the relief. But no, that strong of an opinion isn't a normal thing.
