It's all in the percentages. Lots of great players in CA. but overall, for UF anyway, we've had too many busts, unhappy kids that cause problems or get homesick, whatever, with CA kids. I would ignore CA if I were recruiting for UF.

Yep- my coach at UF used to call us "Distant Runners."
It's funny how little things can stay with you...

Im not Brandon Walker. I was merely posting what one of the most popular CFB guys said. The reach of my post here is minuscule compared to the Barstool reach

The bust rate for first round picks is higher in the nfl than 5 stars in college

The point is that it's good to see a guy that played UF continue on to play UM. Eventually, he will skip out on Colorado, too. Bullet dodged.

Mullen didn't want him, for whatever reason

I respect your take but I don’t know why people keep saying that. There are different levels of want, but to say Mullen didn’t want him isn’t factual. He thought the kid was a lock to UF and got lazy on him (heard that before?). Focused on Emory because he wanted both in the class.

if someone wants to argue he preferred EJ over Coral, I might agree. But then if you say he preferred him “for whatever reason”, I would also take exception to that. They were close in the rankings but EJ was a dual threat QB which fits better with the offense Mullen likes to run. Coral was considered a pro-style QB but had some baggage. Rightly or wrongly, he was thought to have character issues which still plagued him through the NFL draft if you believe the reports.

Hindsight is 20/20 but you have to be honest about what you’re looking at. In the end, Coral wasn’t pushed out of the class, and chose Ole Miss on his own.

So in that scenario Corral comes here in 2018 and is a redshirt freshman, I suppose, when Franks gets hurt up at UK in 2019.

ARe you saying that Corral comes in INSTEAD of Trask? Maybe, maybe not. Trask was a RS junior at that point, so I think Mullen puts in Trask. Do you disagree?
If not, are you saying that Corral beats out Trask later in 2019? That seems unlikely.

    So if we agree that
    1) Trask comes in up at UK and keeps his job, then what do you think Corral does then?
Sit and wait another year? Or transfer?
Especially since he could transfer anywhere in 2020 without sitting out.

Please let me know- as Corral has been used over and over again as evidence of Mullen's failure.
But people who have actual memories, and understand how easy hindsight is, don't regard the issue as so crystal clear.

Because you can have either Trask or Corral, but not both. Unless you think Corral would have sat on the bench for 3 years before playing.

Lol, It's way more simpler than that......
I was just saying that if we had kept matt Then he would have been our Most recent California QB Who came East and had success

It was more than lazy recruiting. Dan went after Fields and didn’t even contact Corral until 3 weeks in after striking out. I think he sent Billy G out there to say he was our guy. That didn’t sit well with Corral, but he still wanted to sign with UF. So when it came down to it, he tried to call our coaching staff and no one answered.

“It’s not the fact that they went to visit other quarterbacks, but it was the fact that I didn’t get hit up, or a call, three weeks into it,” Corral said, according to 247 Sports. “I know people will say, ‘Oh, they didn’t want you.’ That’s not true. I was going to sign the papers that day, the day they told me I was the guy. So, I got the feeling that I was the guy only because nobody else wanted to be and I was just the backup. It doesn’t really matter to me, but it was about where I genuinely wanted to be and where I was genuinely wanted.”

Ole Miss QB signee Matt Corral explains why he flipped from Gators to Rebels

"I told Florida I'm the guy. Don't recruit anyone. I said we're done. Coach Mullen said 'We're done recruiting. You're our quarterback. You're our guy.’ Alright, set. I'm thinking about it all night and it just didn't sit right with me. I just felt like I didn't make the right decision. I called Florida the day coach Luke came by. They were hitting me up when coach [Matt] Luke was there, but I wasn't really responding because he was there. I hit Florida up later that night, but nobody picked up. I don't know if they felt something was going to happen, but none of them picked up. So, I sent them a text saying thank you for all of this and everything, then I de-committed and committed to Ole Miss."
