To be fair, a lot of these people were pretty much taught colonial slavery was a defacto jobs program providing excellent health care for all who were fortunate to be selected to come to America. I’ve seen a few simpletons actually make the old “they were better off here than in Africa” comment. They actually believe this stuff! Kind of amazing propaganda from plantation owners and elitists 150+ years ago still influences thinking of “the commoners” (and curricula!) today.

In their view, everything from Abolition to Civil Rights is really just tyrannical big guv overreach and against the white man’s god given right to own “property”.

I asked if he thought the black experience in the United States was different than the white experience. That’s in general, of course, because each person’s experience is unique.

Thanks. So what you're saying is One black person's experience would be different from another black person's experience Or Asian Hispanic etc.
So then why even ask About white or black doesn't make sense

So why teach American history then, if we are all just individuals with unique experiences?

The slaves were absolutely not better off in chains in America than free in Africa. Whether they were better off in chains in Africa than in chains in America is debatable. Their modern day descendants, however is another matter, which I think could be discussed, were people to remain rational.

No not at all. I have no idea what the specific content is. On the surface I see nothing inappropriate at all on course in African American studies. (Actually not even critical race theory, as an elective). The point is even if it does have controversial material (I have no idea if it does or doesn’t, I tend to doubt it) that in itself shouldn’t be a disqualifier to an elective offering.

What a novel thought, there is hope for you yet. When you have one group of people claiming that they are different than other people racism will never go away.

Aren't Americans a group claiming they are different than other groups? Sounds like America is responsible for perpetuating racism. If you call yourself white, then aren't you perpetuating racism too?

What are the AP courses available? Is it possible that the answer is to inject the productive material into existing AP History classes? If this list is accurate (link), then I think this is a peculiar thing to gripe about as there are a plethora of options out there including things like European History. I do think it's worth considering what AP courses have ever been rejected initially or entirely. I would also think that the State's specific criticism of the course content is not protected and should be subject to the sunshine law. If no specific criticism has been generated (I think the state is wrong if they haven't done this), then maybe the questions need to be asked formally of those rejecting the course.

Wait until the State finds out what next month is.

I think he's talking about race-based groups. And to answer the last question, I know I'm in the minority here, but I wouldn't say perpetuating racism, I'd say promoting racial segregation...promoting the idea that it's worth considering value of another based on their perceived race. I don't think the proper response to racial bias is to double down on racial bias, but that's just me.

You completely missed the point. You could say that about Asian Americans too. Literally every person has a unique experience.
You and your libby buddies enjoy bending over backwards to push libby agenda…. Most likely just to be a pain in the ass.

So by calling yourself white, you are basically doing apartheid? Yeah, I think you might be in the minority there!

I don't think there is a "white experience" or a "black experience." I think the diverse range of each are very similar (from homelessness to US Presidency, for example). It is said that the biological variances within one's perceived race is greater than the variances between two perceived races. I would suggest that the same could be said of the experiences you are comparing. I don't think that addresses the nature of whether or not discrimination exists, however. I just think your description of it is too encompassing. It negates the many other forms of privilege that exist exclusive of race.

Because history is quite vast and some things have to be summarized.
Wait until college to get into the details of a specific subject matter.
    But you already knew it.

Do you consider treating someone differently because of their race to be "apartheid?"
