Not arguing that it is 100% absolutely incumbent on the State to provide adequate reasoning. That's why I'm in the "wait and see" camp.

Ok, I think most states have generally deferred to the academics who create the courses and let them work out the kinks based on feedback rather than explicitly rejecting them from even being piloted, but now maybe it will become more common if the politics are convenient

It's possible, likely probable you're right in both cases.

It's beyond me why this type of stuff is such a focus of this administration. Just stay out of it and leave it up to the local elected officials to lead by the will of the locals. Stop meddling for the cameras, and focus on the meat and potatoes of governing the state. Actually put the conservative mantra of decentralized power into practice. You know, like another fellow GOP Governor, Chris Sununu.

Is it really? If he didn't do this stuff he would just be another unknown Republican governor instead of a Fox News mainstay.

I generally agree with exercising caution until we have more facts. But at this point, I'm assuming the worst about the State of Florida given it's "anti wokeness" crusade, its battle with Disney, etc.

Are you referring to Sununu? He's definitely on record about leaving these decision to locals and I believe does so. I don't think I've watched Fox News in many years so I wouldn't know about appearances. Based on his personality, I could see why he'd give a good soundbite. Less angry than our gov.

You asked why DeSantis focused on this stuff? I don't think Sununu is on Fox much, because he's a boring guy who does boring stuff, not Fox-friendly TV stuff like Ron DeSantis.

DeSantis went from quoting MLK a few days ago to doing this. If he was alive, MLK would definitely not be a fan of this racist loser.

Reasoning - if a course accurately depicts the truth about racism, it has no "educational value", because some facts should not be learned and should be suppressed

I do wonder if its even possible to teach a black history course without exploring the radical tradition and antagonism between races. Is there any version of this course that Florida would approve? Like, you cant just teach Booker T. Washington and one line from an MLK speech.

While I'm admittedly being somewhat facetious, Governor Ron would probably approve a course that used the middle school history text that portrayed former slave owners as victims because their property was, in effect, confiscated at the result of emancipation or the book that refers to enslaved Africans as "immigrants".
The rightwing US textbooks that teach slavery as ‘black immigration’

That kind of reservation of judgement will make you quite unpopular around these parts.

Meat is bad for you, especially if it’s cooked on a gas stove.
