Is Florida really a free state?

The Florida Department of Education said an Advanced Placement African American Studies course proposed by the College Board has been denied approval.

On the College Board's website, a description of the course said it planned to introduce high school students to African American studies and include teachings on literature, geography and other fields.

Later on in the article it says
In their letter to the College Board, the Florida Department of Education said, "As presented, the content of this course is inexplicably contrary to Florida law and significantly lacks educational value."

Will we be seeing the same treatment of the American History and European History courses?

I'd like to see the curriculum for this course. Is it just the "new" version of CRT?

Yep, same old crap... divide and cry like a victim that needs "reparations" for stuff that they NEVER lived through.

Inflammatory headline to generate clicks with no real facts to the story either way. I'll reserve my outrage for after it comes out why it's "inexplicably contrary to Florida Law and significantly lacks educational value".

I think its pretty obvious why given the subject matter and who passed the law specifically to do things like this. Why is FDOE or DeSantis owed any good faith here?

I'll still withhold my outrage until the facts are actually presented rather than "make an ass out of u and me"

The only questionable thing I can find in this description of what the course teaches is that the course taught about the existence of CRT as a theory on the African American Experience amongst others.

A.P. African American Studies Is Coming to U.S. High Schools | Smart News| Smithsonian Magazine

That is apparently illegal in Florida.

I saw a National Review article and they were like "one of the guys who did some of the content was a student of a professor who wrote about blacks and communism/socialism"

From the look of it, this is a fairly normal part of the process. The College Board is still piloting this course according to their website and responded directly to WESH.

“Like all new AP courses, AP African American Studies is undergoing a rigorous, multi-year pilot phase, collecting feedback from teachers, students, scholars and policymakers. The process of piloting and revising course frameworks is a standard part of any new AP course, and frameworks change significantly as a result. We look forward to publicly releasing the updated course framework as soon as it is completed and well before this class is widely available in American high schools.”

No AP class has ever been outright rejected by a state, so how can you say its just a normal part of the process?

I didn't find anything "questionable". There really wasn't any meat to the story besides some vague statements and a lot of "ONOZ! OMG!". All I'm saying is I want to hear both sides because I form an opinion or choose to get outraged over what might not be anything.

Notice, however, that the letter doesn't point out a single specific inaccuracy. They just generally refer to it. That is the tell.

Where does it say that? According to the College Board, this appears to be an iterative process.

There is no meat in the letter. Because there is no meat.
