The issue folks keep referencing is the echo chamber across twitter of a 100 boneheads pushing the same narrative. None of which can be confirmed or denied.
Now the question is, is our shat weak

Didn't seem to have an issue with all of the other signees and portal transfers. Only one outlier so far.

“Also, I was told that the Florida (changed to) 3rd party entity paid a certain amount of money to the Miami collective, for funds already paid to Rashada under the previous contract. When asked about this situation, John Ruiz could not comment on the matter.

This is an unpopular opinion, but the more time passes, the more crap keeps happening that points back at Scott Stricklin. It isn’t just this deal. It’s everything from Mullen, to his show-cause, to Newbauer, Amato, this fiasco, etc.

TE Bowers at uga from Napa says hi. Judging someone by their geography?

UF may have dodged a bullet with rashada but it ain’t because he’s from California, as we’re Tom Brady, Troy polamalu, marshawn lynch, etc.

I’m from Danville and went to UF. The weather was an adjustment, but not a deal breaker. I rowed for UF crew and adjusted to outdoor athletics just fine. The southern culture wasn’t really a thing, as we were in the UF student bubble, and most students were from out of town anyway. Im sure as UF has gotten more national prominence, it’s tended to be more homogenous. The southern culture was more charming than anything else. I did feel like I was an evolved species at times, coming from the future to enlighten all around me, but that might have just been because I was / am an a-hole.
Distance, yeah, that sucks, but that’s going to be a problem for any school not named Cal or Stanford. Heck, even UC Davis was a couple hours away. Not right around the corner. Ohio State seems to be doing just fine raiding Florida. Tennessee had the pickle brother quarterbacks from the East Bay, no longing homesickness there. Even that 5 star guy from my high school, Monte Vista, went to Miami back in the early 2010s. He didn’t dominate, but didn’t transfer back home.
Not to throw the baby out with the bath water, Callie kids are good, but why don’t we just lock down the state of Florida instead of this cross country horse trading.
I always wondered where the De La Salle kids went. That was IMG before IMG was IMG.

Its culture shock for sure. There are a few who make the jump either way but most usually stay put. I’ve lived eithe in Florida or San Diego alm my life. I’ve had many friends visit both directions. It’s rare for them to relocate permanently coast to coast. There’s a handful and the differences between the two states is often why they move.

I moved from Gainesville (12 years) to L.A. (30 years), and it was like traveling to another planet. There is a certain looseness shared by both cultures, I'd say, though.

For every bowers there are 3 of those kids from South/East coast. You’re completely missing the point. If we missed on bowers but got Kyle Pitts, is anybody really gonna complain?

So if I understand this correctly, it sounds like maybe the primary disagreement wasn't over UF paying Rashada what was agreed upon, but the additional money Miami had paid Rashada? Am I understanding that correctly?

I'm only speculating, but maybe UF expected that amount the Rashada family already received from Miami to be deducted or paid back by the Rashada family. Maybe the Rashada family just wanted to keep that money. Or maybe there was a legal concern over UF making that payment.

Makes me wonder if the issue was not so much the money UF offered to Rashada, as opposed to a misunderstanding about that money Rashada was paid by Miami.

I believe he is referring to the Gator recruits from out west that haven’t panned out. Nobody cares about the complete history of every recruit out west just ours. I saw someone posted a complete list of failed west recruits at UF somewhere on here recently.

I also mentioned Najee Harris, who made the jump from my home town and my high school (Antioch CA) to Bama.
But again, it's not about a single one-off, it's about calculated risks.
Others mentioned 2 QBs from CA to UT.

    I'll say 2 things again...
    1) Gainesville heat is nothing like Athens, Knoxville, or even SC where I live now. And football players make their living in the heat. It's not comparable to another sport such as softball or swimming because Gainesville falls are brutal. (As a former distant runner for UF I'm well acquainted with it.)
    2) The southern culture that is a smallish town like GAinesville is also an adjustment from CA.

I know people think in binaries so let me be clear.
I didn't say we should never sign a CA recruit ever no matter what. Again- that's simplistic and idiotic.
If we had a Rex Grossman type who really wanted to come to UF, sign him. Even if from CA.

But I'm saying that in general, our broad-scale efforts should be in the south- esp. Florida.

Finally- about Najee Harris. Since he was from my HS I followed him closely.
He was very close to giving up and going home many times. He had a huge adjustment coming to Bama.
It worked out for both parties, but it almost didn't.

Uhhh...I think there is a pretty big difference between paying a player who excelled in college, and paying some high school kid who may have played against a bunch of nobodies.
