+1 for tying a Todd Rungren album to the JR situation and NIL.

To be fair, NO high school player unproven at the next level...at ANY position...EVER...deserves as much. I really hope this number isn't real. If it IS real, we should've been able to buy the top 3-4 kids at ANY position for that price. Not a high 4 star QB who doesn't have a college ready frame.

He wasn't the greatest player in the NFL, but he was head and shoulders the greatest athlete with probably Bo Jackson a close second (but who had no longevity). No one else in modern-day civilization will play two professional sports at the same time and do well in both. Michael Jordon was a joke in baseball.

Agreed, you only get that kind of money in the NFL from proving you are a player who deserves it! And speaking of frames, he reminded me of Feleipe Frank's, only thinner.

Congrats...he is one of the greatest modern athletes of the 20th century since he played 2 sports. He beat out the other two candidates for "greatest."

Looks like I spoke too soon. Sale was at Roswell high school today...along with ~10 other programs (including Stacy Searels/UGA).

They are interested in Anthonie Knapp.

    Tough to say

It seems almost certain the NIL deal fell apart due to money drying up.

There is a small chance Rashada ws trying to shake us down but given the reports (and logic) that seems like a small chance.

Who is at fault is irrelevant to Rashada.

Recruits view NIL ops as equal to the school. For 4-5 stars is pay to play. They go to the school with the best combination of $, playing time, development, and relationship.

Since the $ fell apart it is pretty obvious Rashada can’t trust UF at this stage. Again, recruits view it one and the same. If your employer signs you to a deal and on your start date says you have to take a cut… what would you do?

It absolutely 100% sucks for Napier but it is the world we live in.

Many posters here are arguing that this world sucks (it does). Many seem to be putting their head in the sand. Many seem to be taking the view that everyone should treat NIL and the school separate. But the reality is what it is. We live in a pay to play world.

Despite the view here that NIL and the school (and coaches) are separate I find it hard to believe in practice. How exactly does our NIL ops know how much to pay and to whom without any communication? Either way even if I concede they are separate the reality from recruits and the media is that they are not. That’s really all that matters.

I wouldn’t call 750k to 1 million big money in terms of NFL money. That’s about what the average rookie makes a year. 1st rd maybe more but 2nd through 7th and UFA don’t make even that much

On the plus side, we've got an extra $13 million to throw at the 2024 class right? Right?

I wish schools would reframe NIL money as incentives for production as opposed to payment for signing. It would really solve a lot of the issues.

The issue for me has always been that there are a small handful of college football players each year truly deserve to be compensated because they are the college football brand each year. I'm talking probably 10 players each year whose image is used by the networks to promote that brand and sell merchandise.

I'm talking guys like Tim Tebow, Bryce Young, Trevor Lawrence. There are really only a handful of players in college football that people would even recognize if they took their helmet off. But these are the guys who deserve to be paid while they're in college.

I'd like to see them do away with paying players for signing and NIL and let the schools bid on an incentive package for the players who accomplish goals in their career. Win a Conference championship, get a bonus. Make playoffs, get a bonus. Win a NC, get a bonus. Win the Heisman, get a bonus. Just be a Heisman finalist, get a bonus. Rush for 1,000 yards, get a bonus. You get the idea. Everyone else just gets a free education.

Maybe even lets the schools offer smaller incentives to any player who reaches those individual accomplishments.

I know it would never happen, but that would address the real base issue without letting this get so out of hand.

I'm confused. Is he trying to say that getting a 5 star is such an improbable roll of the dice that we shouldn't bother or that we need to get 5 5 star QB every year to have a chance for a good starting QB? Or is Matt Baker confusing himself, which likely isn't difficult?
