    That's a feature, not a bug, for the people who seek out news sources that tell them what they want to hear.

    Key words are "or more". Kind of happy that ours only went up $500.

    So we are relying on a radiologist to provide Covid-19 advice. And he doesn't believe in vaccines, but in reaching out to Jesus and the Kingdom of God.

    Only if the courts say so, and the courts are politically stacked against the First Amendment rights.

    Meanwhile, have you ever seen another Governor who systematically engages in legislation and policy specifically designed to push back constitutional rights? Even his base' quietly embarrassed by his attacks on freedoms and rights, excuses him away with the retort, “Well we’ll just have to see how the Courts rule on this one.”
    Is that really what has become the test of a leader - whether his far right (or left) position routinely passes (or doesn’t pass) judicial review? Whatever happened to the governor who tries to pass laws designed to fall within well-conceived freedoms and rights?

    That's a letter from the presidents of Florida's public colleges (i.e., community colleges), not its public universities. DeSantis appointed a guy who is too stupid and uninformed to know the difference between the two to a position of power at a university. Fabulous.

    In addition to what you pointed out, having read the letter, it say’s ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. It gives the political buzzwords, for sure, but substantively it says they’ll teach whatever that want, how they want, and free from “cancel” culture. In other words, a substantive Big Nothing Birger served well done.

    and now he is trying to codify state control over pandemic decisions. more parroting of his discredited voodoo doctor that he appointed as SG while taking control away from local commissioners and school boards

    Governor Ron DeSantis Announces Initiative to make Protections from COVID Mandates Permanent, Enact New Protections for Free Speech for Medical Practitioners (msn.com)

    DeSantis announced a common-sense legislative proposal to make permanent COVID-19 freedoms in Florida. This strong pro-freedom, anti-mandate action will permanently protect Floridians from losing their jobs due to COVID-19 vaccine mandates, protect parents’ rights, and institute additional protections that prevent discrimination based on COVID-19 vaccine status. To read the full proposal, click here.
    ........................
    The proposal includes the permanent prohibition of mandates that are continuously proven ineffective, including:

    • Permanently prohibiting COVID-19 vaccine passports in Florida;
    • Permanently prohibiting COVID-19 vaccine and mask requirements in all Florida schools;
    • Permanently prohibiting COVID-19 masking requirements at businesses; and
    • Permanently prohibiting employers from hiring or firing based on mRNA jabs.

    This sounds about as far from common sense and as far from personal freedom as you can get. I caught COVID-19 from someone at my law office, and my wife caught it from me. If we get another dangerous surge, which could very well happen as a result of mutations, then I want my office to have a policy that you have to be vaccinated to come into the office, and you might be required to wear a mask depending on the circumstances. DeSantis is an uncaring jackass whose primary interest is in getting himself elected to office.

    I thought that the case had already been settled that the CDC has authority here. Am I mistaken?

    I think that the CDC provides guidance but doesn’t have the regulatory authority to prescribe law.
