Or you raise academic standards and let it take care of itself.

I think, at one time, a scholarship was actually considered a good deal. And, you know, kids really wanted to play for their local/state university.

But I love how you project the modern mentality on the foundation of the NCAA over a century ago to foster this concept of the kids being victims of the evil NCAA and it's horrible non-profit member institutions. Evil bastards! How dare they take all this money and fund the entire athletic department with it, give back to the general fund, build new stadiums and "football facilities", etc. And then there are the "poor" kids who have to suffer through all of this in the palace we literally built just for them.

Like Daily Mail, ESPN, Fox News, etc.

All of which have had major headlines on this with the key point of NIL falling apart. That doesn’t make us look good.

And it’s not about what UGA friends think. It’s about potential recruits. It’s about Lagway. It’s about the future 5 stars.

Absolutely those. ESPECIALLY THOSE!!!! God, every one of those is just an absolute bait site. Real people don't care about the finger pointing, they just care about the overall shitshow. You're highly overestimating the damage. In one week nobody will be talking about it.

Also, Daily Mail? This is college football not the EPL.

Seems like we are still getting good transfers, commits, OVs. At least for now. Time will tell.

Honestly, how we react will be more telling than the incident itself. Needless to say, do not follow the lead of chicken-little recruiting guy.

Meanwhile for the past half decade, the sleezy world of college football has been laughing that they’ve been able to get away with convincing the public that college athletes don’t deserve to make a single penny. Lol

Coaches are the only ones getting rich here. So, again, this argument falls flat. We just spent nearly 100M on a football palace EXCLUSIVELY FOR THE PLAYERS that the players demanded (or they won't sign for us). You literally ignore the point that the UAA and similar institutions aren't getting rich and that their sole purpose is to fund the athletic department (in our case, so taxpayers don't have to). It's a lot of boring shit like buying new uniforms for the volleyball team, debt service on bonds, etc. In other words, the UAA isn't the Jones family and the NCAA isn't the Mara family. They are non-profits. The money is being piled back into the program and/or, in the case of UF, back to the general fund. I get it, details like this don't help sell this emotional nonsense you're trying to sell, but that is the reality of it. Only people getting rich off the "blood, sweat and tears" of the players are the coaches and the players demand good (highly paid) coaches.

So, you'll excuse me (and I identify as liberal) if this emotional plea falls flat on me. Sorry, but I'm not buying the NCAA = Slave Owner nonsense. If anything, it's the Jones getting rich off these players by having ZERO commitment to their development. Those are the people shoving money in their pockets on the "blood and sweat" of the players, not some non-profit. Good grief. It's amazing how hard this is for some people to grasp.

I saw my first Gators game in 1961. Teams played ten games and a few were lucky enough to play a bowl game giving them eleven games a season. They got a scholarship for that. In the seventies they added an eleventh game and a few teams were lucky enough to play in a bowl game giving them twelve games a season. They got a scholarship for that. In the nineties, they added conference championships and teams that played in those games also played in a bowl game giving them thirteen games a season. They got a scholarship for that. In the 21st century they added a twelfth regular season game. If they played in the conference championship and a bowl, they ended up playing fourteen games. They got a scholarship for that. Then came the playoffs on top of a regular season of twelve games a possible conference championship and a possible berth in the national championship with the potential of fifteen games. They're still getting a scholarship for that. Now, who knows how many games with the addition of eight more teams to the playoffs they'll be playing. They deserve what they can get from the mess created by the powers that be who were too greedy to truly care about "Student Athletes". Are the athletes potentially greedy? Yeah, but no more so than the ones that denied them any kind of compensation for decades. Anyone claiming that the scholarship is equivalent to what the players have to put into keeping it is delusional. It's the same compensation they received sixty years ago, but with far more games and time they have to commit to it. If you think they don't deserve it, ask yourself, "Would I work for a job for a certain amount of pay and over the course of my career I was required to work more hours but they aren't going to increase my wages to compensate me for the extra hours? If you answer yes, I think you are very disingenuous.

And they get to sign the pro contract free and clear. Unlike Baseball, Hockey, Soccer contracts, there is nothing owed to the club that developed the player.

You "identify as a liberal"? Is that supposed to elevate or validate your opinion? Just wondering.

The NCAA should've and could've nipped this in the bud decades ago as their "amateur sports" operation began to rake in billions. They wanted to be greedy and keep athletes from profiting all while adding crappy bowl games and ridiculous TV contracts to generate even more money. The NCAA is a victim, alright - a victim of its own greed. They deserve any slander that comes their way.

The State of Florida tried to take the high road. Instead got run over by a semi.

Now we joint the race to the bottom.

This isn't corruption. We already had that. Now we get something worse.

What we still call "college football" should be jettisoned to become minor league football. But there is just too much money to be had for any of the universities to give it all away.

He alluded to it, so I just wanted to clarify where I typically stand in the spectrum.

If we release him from the LOI, can UF put conditions in the release such as he can't sign with an another SEC or Florida school?

Nah. Too busy servicing debt, paying to keep the lights on, etc. Again with this emotional trope that has no basis in reality.

Yeah, I saw that bastard NCAA the other day on his yacht, just living it up in the south of France on the "blood and sweat" of the "poor" kids.

How about a restraining order that bars him from coming within 50 miles of campus?
