For being a drama queen? Absolutely. The entire process has been drama with him, from him flipping to not signing his LOI until late in the day to the latest bs. At some point you can’t defend his tendencies and you have to call a spade a spade regardless of who’s right or wrong at this exact moment. I don’t blame him for dragging Florida through the mud. That was the media and others who can’t be named. But I haven’t been a fan of Rashada since his initial commitment process. He seems like the exact kind of player Napier has been avoiding: a me first player. The only reason I wanted him in this class is because our qb room isn’t stellar, but truth be told I don’t know he would have made much difference. Lagway can’t get here soon enough.

I know others have replied, but let me agree and say why.
I grew up in Northern California- we were the next town over from where Rashada is from. Pittsburg was our huge rival.
"BEAT PITT!" We said it so many times.

So I know a little more than most on here about going from CA to FLA.
Agree we should not recruit California for the following reasons...
    1) Distance.
    2) Weather. There's no humidity in CA and it's a big adjustment to the heat/ humidty of N. Florida.
    3) Culture. Southern culture is so different from California.

It's not that NO one from CA will ever work out for us. That's idiotic and simplistic.
Though it is amazing how poorly we have done with California recruits.
That backs up my take but even if one makes it (as Najee Harris did for Bama), it doesn't change my opinion.

My take is that it's not worth the effort. Our efforts are better expended in the south- esp in Florida.
Southern recruits are simply a better gamble, or a better risk/reward payoff so to speak.
Keep them closer to home, and the players will be happier, and the team will have better chemistry.

I tend to agree with that. But with any position other than QB. It’s too important a position to limit to a specific footprint …and there aren’t that many really good ones to begin with. If you zero in on a guy, go get him. Wherever that might be.

He's going to severely regret turning down Florida. He's not a bad QB, but he's not a great QB.

Normally when you get California QBs, they are very polished for being high schoolers. There are sometimes recruiting years where California dominates the top-10 spots for QBs. This year it was 3. A couple years ago, it was 5. Just a good farm system over there.

Rashada has a very high ceiling and a strong arm, but he's not worth "$13M". He reminds me of Feleipe Franks. Great physical tools, but not all the way there yet.

I do not think we offered him $13M, BTW. I think that was floated by Rashada this month, so he could "bargain" down to $2-3M. Whatever he was asking from Florida, he will never get that anywhere else. I feel it's more likely that he takes about $600K, then transfers out as a freshmen to some other place. He gives me those "I am a flake" vibes.

You miss 100% of the shots you don't take.

All you've heard is the same speculation and innuendo that I have, so why come down on one side or the other?

Have you considered the possibility that some of the people you're referring/listening to may have been talking through their respective hats? Just a thought.

Actually, your analogy only works if you have unlimited number of shots.
Recruiting is far different from that.
We have only so much time, so much effort, and we are certainly limited in scholarships.
All recruits are gambles. Brock Berlin and Powell were I believe our top recruits of all time, and neither did much for us.

I'd rather gamble on guys with a better hit rate, and those are guys who are already familiar with the culture and heat.
And are not so far from home.

So to continue your analogy, it's far smarter to take higher percentage shots than lower ones.

    Also, unlimited money, unlimited time.

If you took a plane directly from Gainesville to California, it would be 5 hours. A commercial flight though stops either in Texas, or Georgia, with a layover, or about 9 hours of travel. That is not even counting time in and out of the airport, nor time driving to your destination.

When I went to San Fransisco last year, we left at 5:30AM and landed at 1:30PM local (11 hours). One flight there, one flight back. We didn't even get to napa valley until around 4PM. That is an entire day of just travel. How much does that cost for a coach? $1200 on a trip? For one player? It wouldn't be worth it unless the guy was a top-20 national player.

Or, you could just drive to Tampa, Orlando, Jacksonville, Miami in 5 hours, making stops along the way and be back before bedtime.

I am not saying the players aren't good, but it's not cost effective on pretty much any scale. The fact that we have had so many duds is even more concerning.

The main reason we got DJ from Texas wasn't because of CBN, our any position coach, it was because of coach Hamilton, a support staff member, and that came directly from Lagway father. We have an army of staffers now that we didn't have before, Hamilton showed us that if you send the RIGHT people, you can delegate responsibilities and be more efficient on the trail while doing so.

Don't have to invest s ton of resources over there just the right ones.

He also coached there but we apparently have no interest in any of the WRs transferring out.

For the record, nothing prevented Jaden Rashada from enrolling in school and playing football at the University of Florida, absolutely nothing, period. He chose not to, after telling everyone UF was THE place he wanted to be at. Yes, we all know that was not true, and why.

It’s a shame that money came down to his decision not to join the University of Florida.

So no Rashada and we don't even pull the most talented transfer out of the portal. Yikes.

It's also useful to recall that culturally speaking, Texas isn't California.
