Was Carthon the back when we defeated Saban's LSU NC team w freshman Chris Leak? Saban got Zookered in that one.
He was on that team as a senior and had a receiving TD but no one on that team was necessarily “the back”. They had a platoon with him, Fason, and Wynn all getting touches. Fason had the best game. Florida at LSU Box Score, October 11, 2003 | College Football at Sports-Reference.com
When I think of Carthon, I think of the 2001 Tennessee game. Graham was out injured and we decided to run Gillespie all game to no avail. I just couldn’t understand why we didn’t run the bigger, stronger Carthon more that game.
I believe that was Saban's only loss. One time where Coach Zaunbrecher's bubble screen flummoxed Saban. Amazing, who knew at that time what Saban would become?
Zaunbrecher's bubble screens also absolutely torched #5 UGA the year prior. We all made fun of it at the time, mostly because we were coming from Spurrier, but they really flummoxed some very good defenses.
Ran Carthon promoted to executive vice president, has full control of Titans roster, coaching staff The Tennessee Titans finalized their football structure Wednesday. The team announced Ran Carthon has been promoted to executive vice president/general manager, Chad Brinker has been promoted to president of football operations, and Brian Callahan has been hired to be its head coach. Carthon will now oversee all areas that impact the football team such as roster control, team activities and personnel decisions including draft and free agency acquisitions. Tennessee's coaching staff will report to Carthon. He will also have oversight of scouting, sports medicine and player engagement. "Over the past year, Ran has impressed me and our staff with his innovative approach to roster building," Adams Strunk said. "Ran's exceptional reputation around the league as a talent evaluator and culture builder was a clear competitive advantage during last year's free agency and draft process, as well as our recent search for a head coach. Simply put, Ran Carthon makes the Tennessee Titans a destination for the league's top talent. By expanding his role to include full roster control and oversight of the coaching staff, our organization will now benefit more completely from Ran's unique ability to build and lead a championship-caliber football team."
