#66 Max Brown - that's a new one. Freshman QB from the football team who didn't see any action this year.

Fan Nation has this blurb about him:

Brown was considered the No. 3 shortstop and No. 10 overall player in Oklahoma in the 2022 recruiting class by Perfect Game, as well as the No. 157 shortstop and No. 500 overall prospect in the country. The same outlet named Brown to its 2022 Preseason First Team for the All-West Region.

Is Austin Langworthy no longer a part of the coaching staff? Really liked him as a player and was glad he was coaching here. Wish him the best whatever he is doing. Will always remember the walkoff HR against Auburn here in the Super Regional.
    GO GATORS!!!!
Looking forward to catching a few home games this year with my daughter.⚾️

I'm sure they will replace him with another GA shortly.

  10. Those gigs seem to be 1 or 2 years at max types, just to get a feel from the other side. I'm sure he's had help from Sully/whoever else to get in the door at wherever he ends up at and that's the big thing.

^^^Good info in that article on our 5 transfers. I guess I don't think of JuCos as transfers so much but I guess in today's portal world they still fit the mold. The writer mentions each of them having starter potential since all 5 were starters before. As of now only Waldrep is ready. I can see Shelnut and Schiekofer getting a few starts during the midweeks but I only think of Waldrep as a starter here. I'm sure a month from now we will still have a few questions about the lineup.

I still believe somehow someway Shelnut will force his way into the lineup. Think the hit tool is just too good. We shall see.

    In-house competition is healthy.

Something I forgot that is likely, if Cags starts at first and Riopelle is the main catcher then I think Shelnut is first possible at the DH. So yes he could be a regular in the lineup. Still a few puzzle pieces to see how Sully plays it.

I have not seen him enough to think he is the closer but I'll try and see him a few times before opening day to check it out.

I think that the pitch repertoire is there for him to be competitive in the closer role—the next two things to answer IMHO would have to be his own track record of command/consistency (BB ratio to strikes thrown), and seeing if he has that closer mentality/demeanor.

It will be fun to watch him develop.

I think Cags is DH a lot and Riopelle plays a lot at 1st, giving more time to Lastres and Heyman behind the plate. Lastres has supposedly rehabbed and Heyman might be our best defensive catcher already…they’re both too good to not play.
