RIP. In such a context you can only wonder what recruiting activity happens that late...maybe a bunch of youngsters living up the NC.

There's a can of worms Bobby!
I truly see both sides of the argument. First let me say I think the "out of state" and "international" arguments are overblown....looking at the stats UF isn't anywhere near overloading in those areas. To me it boils down to legacy vs deserving academic kids. By and large I have a hard time telling a kid with better academic credentials no just because someone's parent went to UF......if it's close I am fine erring on the side of the legacy. Ultimately UF is an academic institution, that's why it exists.
I know people bemoan the student body may not be as ingrained for football. I go to every home game, and have for 50 plus years. This season's student body was really good at the games, attendence and making noise. No complaints in that regard. It may never be like the 80s and 90s but that seems to be generational rather than UF student makeup.
I also see people complaining that legacy kids go elsewhere, so does parents money. Probably true. But maybe those kids that do get in are the next Bezos, Jobs, etc and endow more money than we have ever imagined. Maybe they invent the next Gatorade. That's all speculative both ways. But we will have a large alumni base that's smart and well positioned for success.
My grandad played football and baseball at UF. My son was a very good baseball player, but not UF level. He had a very nice college career at another school, and now is back sitting next to me at UF games. He would have loved to play for Sully, wasn't good enough. We accepted that. Some academics maybe should understand that as well. Just my 2 cents

Agreed - I was at UF during the late zook and early Urban years when Machen came in. I dont think the student body interest determined the football outcomes then. Put a winner on the field and the student interest picks up...If anything the more academically inclined students wouldn't want to spend a Saturday at the games if the expectation was to get blown out by 20 to a good opponent...

And why isn’t everybody making fun of scUM for having their 5* recruit renege and run up to Colorado after ESD?

I had a client who was a private college advisor for HS. Basically parents would hire her to help and coordinate their child's college acceptance path.
She told me that there was a time that UF specifically turned away legacies to create more diversity in the student body.

There certainly were points where diversity was emphasized and that likely cost legacies a spot, I knda doubt legacies were "specifically" turned away, but they were likely the biggest area taking a hit. And certainly over large segments of time legacies got favoredtreatment over more deserving academic kids.
Admissions is a constantly changing area. I just think if it is truly academic merit based it's tough for anyone to complain.

hate to rain on this line of thinking Bobby, but same situation exist at the University of Georgia. I personally knew a number of alumni from there, whos kids couldn't get in because of rising admittance standards..........last time I checked the Dawgs were 2 time defending football champs.........just sayin

@bobbybaker86 saw/read where Howard family may have reached out to Billy a few weeks ago inquiring about some things. At the time our QB room was full and we said so. Hoping they understand that’s the only answer Billy could give and things have changed now. Kid deciding in 5-6 days. Hoping we get visit. With his relationship w Billy and basically growing up in Billy’s backyard I’d be shocked if we don’t land Howard.

According to some Ole Miss mods, the Howard family is giving Napier those "thanks, but no thanks" vibes back now.

Of course, those Ole Miss guys are notoriously terrible, but it's out there.

While true, he could've always not gone after Mertz so quickly.
