Going through this now. Triple legacy. My oldest daughter went to UF for BS/MS and now my youngest daughter has applied and awaiting a decision at the end of Feb. accepted to UCF, USF and FSU thus far, but who knows regarding UF??? If goes to FSU, certainly the end to a UF family legacy of grandparents, parents, kids and grandkids going to UF. My wife and I met at UF as did parents. I’m told legacy plays no part in decision-making, but wonder why??? Loyalty should be a two way street. Will see in another 40 days or so.

It is a numbers driven problem more than anything else. There's just so many applicants I think, other than a few that just simply pop because of their numbers, most end up being lumped in together with very little to distinguish one applicant over another. Consider the difficulty to pick through all of them. I think it largely becomes a lottery for the vast majority of applicants.

My daughter is one who also had better numbers than I did back in the day. She didn't make it in (and was devastated) but is doing well at USF. Heck, she basically is getting paid to go to school with the USF scholarship and bright futures.

It could be, but my dad is the one that brought it up to me for my kids. We both graduated from UF. He specifically said grandkids of alumni.

I think we have 12 UF degrees between the family. Both my Step and FIL graduated UF about the time of the Louisiana Purchase. Most of us would have had to go to Florida Tech these days.

Can you still transfer to UF with an AA degree or am I aging myself?

My grandfather was an alum. My wife and I are alums, and my daughter is a UF freshman this year. I agree with your "lottery" comment. Why not give legacy students preference if everything else is equal? Reward loyalty. This would build a more loyal alumni base and potentially increase monetary returns for the university. PS: University of Miami offered her a full ride, but her heart was set on UF.

I read a debate on how your situation may be similar to big boosters. It would bend me a bit if I were a big booster and my kids or grandkids couldn’t get in. You’d think if they let football players in, they would make way for the next generation of certain people too.
