Up 4 with 45 seconds left against VCU and going to the line. Here is how the game went from there. Missed front end. VCU turns it back over, so still 4 point lead with about 35 left. Dayton throws the ball to the defense on the press. VCU drains a three. Dayton inbounds and gets to half court, gets the ball stolen from the dribbler for a layup. Now they are down one. Timeout to reset, and the Dayton inbounds pass is thrown at the guys chins and bounces out of bounds, VCU ball. Foul on the inbounds, but VCU missed the front end so Dayton ahead one more shot. Never got a good shot off, just a contested one that wasn’t close, VCU won by one. I can only imagine this place if we did that. Myself included.
So in 35 seconds, Dayton with 3 turnovers, a missed front end, and a bad shot? And VCU with 1 turnover and missed front end? Sounds like a pretty hideous half-minute of basketball. And I guess "pretty hideous" is a contradiction in terms.
It was in about 45 seconds, I just corrected my post. But yeah. And yes, AG is still their coach. They had a 16 point lead I think at one point tonight. Just a brutal loss.
Anthony Grant is still a good coach, but sometimes basketball just goes off the rails. It's the nature of a fast-paced game.
