The Athletic is just aggregating all of the rumors and putting into one nice article. They aren’t bringing any new information people don’t already know.

And the $13M figure is crap. Manning probably didn’t even receive that much. Tennessee’s qb who is rated higher didn’t get nearly that much. Someone threw a number out there and now everyone is running with it. Must be infuriating Billy.

My oldest plays D1 soccer. Most of the top programs recruit overseas. Wish they put more emphasis on kids in the states. It would help. However, coaches want and need to win so you go where the best talent is.

And those are basically guys with no shot of making it big (they may go pro, but in lower leagues) over there. That said, I'm sure it's an appealing offer given the value of the degree. Irony.

No sec men's soccer is brutal and destroys soccer opportunities in the southeast. Thanks title 9.

I despise NIL -- hate it . NIL should be for those players with youtube followers, insta etc and it should be the players responsibility to get deals for their name image and likeness.

not this pay to play crap.

    It’s after 5:00 p.m.

    Did he enroll?

Maybe we can interview his father to see what’s going on.

    Or, maybe his lawyer.

Or, the person with the NIL money.

That’s an awful argument: Fields also would’ve won 2 titles there lol. Bennett was good. Better than people give him credit for, but he won on the backs of several top 3 recruiting classes. We need to stop looking to the Wuerfells- special kids with less talent but do it the right way and catch lightning in a bottle/ and more to compiling 5 stars. IF WE WANT Titles or to compete in the SEC. Now, if we would rather have/ kids that do it the right way, want to be gators and have high graduation rates… I’m fine with that… But we’re going to go 8-4 or 7-5. And I hope if we’ve all collectively decided to go after the walk on‘s, and the Doering‘s, and the Wuerfells and the Stetson Bennetts… That the midseason threads here look something like “ did you see the volunteer work that player X did? “Have you checked out our graduation rates lately “and not “why did we just get blown out by Georgia again for the seventh straight year”
We can’t live in both worlds. We’ve committed to big boy football you can’t have your cake and eat it too. I wish we could. The 90s were great. But the world changes and old dudes who sit around and gripe about “back in my day” NEVER get their wish.

I can't wrap my head around the social dynamic. Suddenly rich football players from dirt poor neighborhoods going all NFL on campus. At least we didn't have to deal with that issue before. That was the NFL's problem, and a problem it was.

High-T multi-millionaires in a sea of sycophants, and a transfer portal if someone's feelings are hurt.

There's many reasons why I'm not interested in the NFL anymore. I hope college football doesn't start checking off those reasons.

If we aren’t going to do whatever it takes to be in the top five in recruiting, it was kind of a waste of money build all those facilities.

It is not we nor the college that pays the NIL.
The NCAA only allows the school to pay student athletes $5,980 per year'The payer of The NIL is a party not officially tied or connected to a collage.
The NIL is a party that will represent the student athlete in the areas of promoting his Name, Image, and likeness (advertising).

Of it course it is possible that some deep pocket boosters in a NIL are boosters to their favorite college athletic program. This can cause some NCAA violations if the NIL rules are violated. The NCAA ruled that the NIL's cannot pay the athlete directly. In other words the money has to come from a legit promotion of the athlete's Name, Image, and Likeness.

This not a perfect world. There are imperfect people (including NIL members and student athletes). Some flawed NIL members will find a way to game the system to pay the student athlete and or screw the student athlete of his/hers money.

I've thought for awhile that the European youth sports model makes more sense, separating academics and sports.

I started reading the top of this thread two days ago and I stopped after a few pages. Mostly because it was too early to see what was going on and from reading too many posts about UF not coming through on the NIL deal. These posters have no idea how the NIL is supposed to work.

I got back about a half hour ago and I see that more info has come out and one thing is obvious. Also, there still posters who have not learned anything about NIL.

What is clear now is that Rasahda maybe damaged goods. It maybe a good idea for UF to let go, but only after the NCAA gets a good sniff of what is actually going on. That sniff could make Rashada person non grata.

One thing that is obvious, is that the Miami recruiting of Rashada looks illegal. The person who headed up the NIL for Rashada is a big Miami booster. This deal could be illegal if the NCAA proves that this booster has official connections with Miami. It could also be illegal if the booster made some cash payments to Rashada or anyone connected to him. If this is the case, Rashad may of cooked his own goose with the NCAA and no one can sign him at this time (due to his UF status).

The Rashad deal with another NIL provider is not so clear. It is obvious that a lot of money was in on the deal that was supposed to be more than deal he had with Miami. At this time there is not any information on how much the deal was and if or how the deal fell apart.

Another item that is not totally clear is why did Rashada bolt from Miami back in November 11 of last year? Could it be that he got wind of the NCAA investigation into Miami recruiting and NIL deals? The news of this NCAA investigation broke out on December 11 of last year.

The lack of knowledge that some people have on the NIL is causing confusion on this thread. There are three main items to remember here.
    1. The NCCA regulations prevents the member colleges from paying students directly for their athletic performances. In other words the schools cannot be directly involved in making or offering NIL deals.
    2. Florida law prevents state (Public) college's in discouraging recruits in taking NIL deals. The law's intend was to allow the recruit the freedom to choose their NIL offers. Also, not to steer a student to a NIL group that was in the school's favor. Some coaches in Florida find it very difficult to talk about NIL deals with their recruits. Thus to play it safe (with the state law) they do not discuss NIL deals. Please note that non state (colleges) like Miami are not under this restriction.
    3. The NIL agent is not legally affiliated in any way with UF. They are an independent organization that can offer an NIL to any student athlete who is attending college.

I think most people know how it's supposed to work, but a lot us realize how it works in practice.

Yes, the schools are not directly pulling strings or making deals. They're putting enough buffer between themselves and these organizations that it's all technically legal. But there's a channel. These NIL shops aren't doing the recruiting on their own.

Also for some reason we can no longer name the specific organization you have in that post.

This has to be among the most notable missteps in a UF football program in recent history. So, here we are chasing a 4-star guy from California who changes his allegiance every several months and we are still hanging on whether he or his family or "his people" accept Gators largesse. I do not want this guy on my team and the fact that BN and the AD went after this guy with such energy and seemingly missed their big catch- is an embarrassment to the Gator Nation. We are left with no quality QB ready to take reps in Spring practice. Are ya worried yet, Gator Nation?
