So it’s confirmed that we were going to pay $13 million for the 7th ranked QB in high school ?

True that. Van Dijk would be a swing player in the NBA if he grew up here along with all the French CBs. What would we look like if our best players played soccer? That's easy. France.

Yep, because we don’t really support soccer but that may change in the next couple generations .

It doesn't really seem it is madness to schools other than UF who want to win without getting too dirty. Every other school seems to have made its decision whether they want to win or not get dirty.

    No.

I'm still considering that supposed "$13 million" figure a rumor until I hear a reputable source confirm it. Just doesn't seem believable at all. Maybe I'm naive but I don't see anyone offering that much for ANY high school kid. Not us, not Miami, not A&M, not Texas, not USC, not OSU, not Georgia or Alabama. Nobody.

Some. I watch it every weekend (it's great. It comes on in the mornings and Gators/Bucs/RedZone in the afternoon). But I'm not sure we'll ever be able to wrap our heads around that system. Keep in mind, guys like David Beckham were at Manchester United when they were 10yo. Just as you alluded to in your previous post, we see college as an inherent part of the path to professional sports. Over there, it's completely separate and you do your sports at a club. That team will then have traveling teams all they way down to 7 years old and up to the Premier League. So, take the whole ball of wax, from Pop Warner to the NFL, and put it all under one umbrella. Then, tie it literally to your neighborhood or small town. Keep in mind there are dozens of pro teams in London alone, 6 in the PL this season. My team's 65k stadium is just 7 miles from our main rival's 65K seat stadium and about 10 from our other main rival's 40K (soon to be expanded) stadium. Imagine FSU, UF and UGA all playing in the same city. It's fascinating to say the least.

No, what is confirmed is that someone promised to pay him $13 million, and apparently he promised what he could not deliver.

Every sport but football has a way to go pro except football. College football is probably by far our best minor league we have. We have the best coaching and facilities of all American sports but it’s crumbling as we speak.

Unless the Athletic article posted above is simply made up, then yeah, it is confirmed.

I wouldn't say "made up" but their source's dollar figure is probably based on a lie, hearsay, or an exaggeration at the very least.

That's always been the issue from day 1, but nobody ever challenged the NFL. Just took the easy way out and pointed fingers at the NCAA. Well, here we are.

Athletic is pretty reliable. They won't run with it unless it's confirmed through a good source.

None of this is from the horse's mouth. I don't consider it more than a notch above the floating rumors the last few days. Hell they might just be compiling those.

I'm starting to think that some teams (we all know who some of them are) should form another division. In this division anything goes, players can be bought straight out of high school or from other teams. Players do not have to pretend to be students, so they don't have to attend any classes or worry about qualifying or keeping up any kind of GPA.

The two drawbacks they would have are:
    1) they would compete for a separate title not sanctioned by the NCAA
    2) if for any reason they decided that they wanted to attend an NCAA affiliated school after being at one of the pay-to-play schools, they would not be allowed to play football for the NCAA affiliated school.

How the NCAA would police the affiliated schools is still anybody's guess.
Maybe by staying in that category the remaining schools would agree to abide by NCAA rules and jurisdiction.

Maybe, but the $13M figure isn't attributed to anyone, not even unnamed sources.

They say a "person" claims the figure was terminated but honestly this feels extremely fast and loose.
