If he ends up being one of the greatest DBs we're all going to wonder what the heck he was doing while he was here

I have no animosity toward him but he was a very flawed player while at Florida. Shoe throw notwithstanding.

When he starts making pro bowls annually, you will have a different opinion. A lot of players pre-NIL, shut it down after a good season because they have demonstrated that they can play on the highest level in the best conference in college football (basically a semi-pro league). Wilson had some injuries and was obviously advised to churn down the activity as was AR. The only way you are going to get players to play at an intense level going forward is through incentives. 1000 yards = more NIL money. 10 plus sacks = extra NIL money. Why would I risk my career playing for a school that is on a three-year project to become relevant again when I can shine just enough to entice scouts to select me in the draft?

Being the number 1 pick means nothing now because there will be fourth-rounders who come out of college with 10 million already in the bank.

Let me ask you this: if UF (collective, lmao) says "hey here's $1M if you come to Florida with an extra $9M if you get get 1000 yards" and literally any other school says "hey here's $3M to come to our school" which one do they pick?

Incentive-based payments only work if you have a contract.

Further, I think it's an awful way to run a team. Now these guys are intently focused on stats versus winning games.

If a person isn't willing to demonstrate his worth through incentive pay, why would we want him? Sports are like sales, the more you produce, the greater the commission. If you want to be an average salesman, meet the minimum criteria. If you want to play on Sunday, then reach new plateaus. In the past, the ones that made it to the pros did it with no incentive pay. Now you are going to have to incentivize. If I know I am going to get paid ala Richardson, with no incentives to get the pay, why am I going to risk the real dollars in the future by playing super hard in the present?

Stats win games. The team with the most sacks and the most interceptions, and the most touchdowns wins. Stats.

That's why he's making millions and you aren't. You get to criticize a person who in his first year of employment has probably made more than you will in ten years.

Who gives a rip what he makes. If he is so wonderful in the NFL that is just more proof that he obviously dogged it while he was playing for UF . If he played in the NFL like he did at UF he wouldn't be in the NFL very long.

Because someone else has said come here and play and get paid and we don't care about stats. Think about something like 2008: do Chris Rainey or Jeff Demps sign with us if we have an incentive like 1,000 yards rushing knowing that they're competing with each other for stats, not to mention Percy Harvin?

Not always. By any stretch. And more importantly, great teams rarely have one guy with all the stats in any unit. See my example above.

On performance alone, can't say he was one of the greatest here.

To some performance in the NFL automatically means that person was "great" at their school when its obvious to anyone with two eyes that its not necessarily true. I'll give two alternate examples: Emmitt Smith - great back in the NFL, greatest back in UF history. Terrell Davis - great back in the NFL, yet some Georgia fans hardly remember him playing there. If forced, I bet I could go back every year for 35 years and name a CB off that team that I would choose ahead of Marco Wilson to play on my team.

I agree. But in this day and age, unless you are playing for a program that is a bona fide playoff contender, there is no incentive to go all out and risk injury. It is the cold nature of the business.

When You have Rainey, Demps, and HRvin on the same team, your incentives/milestones would be lower per person.

stats are everything because the team with the most points wins. Getting the most points usually- USUALLY results from better production on offense and or outstanding metrics on defense.

A lot of players dogged it for us. Why you have made him the bane of your existence is beyond me.

Maybe he dogged it or maybe he just had bad coaching. I'm inclined to believe the latter.

I don’t care how many pro bowls he makes, his time at Florida was not outstanding in anyway. He pretty much sucked

What an absolute cluster you're describing. So you're recruiting two great RBs and you're telling them "well I expect you both to come so come get a base of $1M and then if you hit 500 yards you get $2M" Then one doesn't sign. Or neither. Or you pick up a third.

But the big problem is the incentives go against the team and toward the individual. That means every play action the RB is mad because it was a chance to get another carry.

It's an absolutely terrible idea if you want to win games.

In aggregate. I'm not even willing to say usually but let's go with 60% of the time. Individually? Not usually. Winning teams don't usually rely on one player (outside the QB position) to own the snaps.
