Ouch, that would hurt and leave quite a mark. :D
The entire piece was definitely that, absolutely. I thought the VS was more about UF not pressuring their boosters more to redirect.

How would ruiz know how much money we have vs how much was promised? Heitner?

Also, wasn't florida reportedly handling NIL the "right way" in that we specifically were not offering money up front like Miami and aTm?

I'm just a bit confused on these two points.

I was thinking that the other day that these operations are ripe for scams....similar to the Nevin Shapiro debacle down in Miami.

The same way hostile bidders and the competition finds out about ones quote on bid day: (I am in construction contracts)

    1) Running of big ass mouths
    2) Insider "plant" sharing information (illegally)
    3) Dishonesty and lack of trust by one or both of the parties

antny1 - What the heck is the "right way" anyway????
I read many "opinions" on this board but it would seem very few really understand the working mechanisims on how the shit show really works, and I believe that is by design.

At the end of the day my perception is do whatever dirty work needs to be done and keep it quiet. Everybody is "breaking rules" because there are none. It has been reported by several media members that the NCAA will take no action against anybody anyway, for anything, related to recruiting at the moment, for fear of law suits and Gov't or regulatory intervention.

I’ve literally read a dozen or more versions of “what’s really happening with Rashada.”
They all claim to be the truth, all claim unnamed sources… some may have more bonafides than others, but it’s impossible for them all to be factual.
Pate generally does a good job, but just because he has a “National” podcast doesn’t mean he has the full (or for that matter any of) story.
Believe it or not sports commentators more well known than Josh Pate have failed miserably in their messaging.
Somebody on social media is correct, (at least mostly) but while somebody does know the truth (at least their version) they’re not talking about it.
Sports forums are designed for opinions, that’s true… but unfortunately that very fact lends itself to varying degrees of exaggeration, to make one look like they know more than they really do.
There will be a time for finger pointing later on (maybe, if we get the facts) but, let’s at least wait for some solid facts to come out before we open that debate.

Well I agree with your last part. It's always been filthy but in the past they have enforced certain schools much more than others. At the moment it doesn't seem there is any way to enforce much so either play the game or get out altogether.

As far as the "right way," it has been reported more than once that Florida has supposedly used a more incentive based approach rather than a straight up pay for play. No one knows the truth right now.

Other than tellingn the world “we are Gator fans and want UF to have the best NIL deals” what can anyone do about them?

UF, Napier, Stricklin, etc. cannot tell them what to do. The NCAA won’t touch them with a 10 foot pole.
Boosters won’t steer their money there because then they don’t get access or recognition. So they get a lot of little donations to make up one big pot. Did you think they wouldn’t skim off the top? Or the center and the bottom?

One comment in response to the earlier shot at Boosters. Big schools expect boosters to pony up for luxurious facilities because they are considered to be necessary to attract bit time, pampered recruits. Now, the same boosters are expected to throw in millions more to buy the services of the recruits. Mayb boosters are running out of money, or just getting tired of being milked.

The obvious solution is for UF to go Div II or Div III. Then folks could actually cheer for authentic student athletes playing for the love of their sport, without all of the drama. The players may not be as big or as fast, but they play just as hard. Maybe harder late in the season when others are more concerned about their draft status than about the team.
My Grandkids were athletes at those levels, and their sports were just as competitive on the field; and the fans were as passionate although fewer in number. After the games the athletes were students again.

We all know that NIL became necessary when the value of a free education became meaningless because bit time athletes were not interested in education. Just end the farce and let the NFL run their own minor league.

I don't disagree at all. As I said, I'm all for improving the functionality of our NIL program - within the letter of the law and in accordance with the standards of ethical conduct any state funded institution is required to adhere to. But I believe that if we're going to be in the "football business," we'd better watch our P&Qs pretty damn closely. As I recall, there are no get out of jail free cards for the likes of us.

He also said he went to Strickland about ways to utilize NIL and he was turned down. No idea if he had good ideas or not though. But it was atleast on his mind

Interesting comments and I can't argue much. A Universities "charter", even in the SEC, is to provide an education, not be a farm system for the NFL.

Look at the shame, disgrace and humiliation that has been opened up by the decision to destroy amatuer football by the University Presidents.

The Orlando Sentinel reports that Rashada has not enrolled in Florida because a “NIL agreement for around $13 million was not honored.”

You argue for ethics in the operations of UF's football program, and I don't disagree with you. However, its not ethical to hire a FB coach and then tie one hand and a foot behind his back while asking him to compete for championships and then fire him 3 years later because of the lack of results. Its not ethical to insist that UF sports are only motivated by competing for championships publicly to sell tickets/booster fees and then not actually make a commitment to doing so. Its not ethical to go out and recruit players telling them that they will have 100% support toward competing for championships and then not follow through. To me the UF admin (and it should be very apparent to anyone paying even a modicum of attention that this is squarely where the issue lies) continues to sit on the fence. They want to be perceived as "too good" than to join the current competitive environment, but they still want that hard earned $ in your pocket. I think Wingtee is right, UF NEEDS to make a decision NOW (actually the decision should have been made 2 years ago) before its too late and there is a mass exodus of fans and funding. Either work with other like-minded universities that choose to opt out of the current corruption in sports and create a new league, or join in the fun and games. Either decision is okay by me, because at least we would be competing on an even playing field.

And I got ridiculed for saying it was about the Benjamin's. I'm sure its totally about the money. That's what college football has become.

Yes, he knows, they all know, they all talk, he’s bidding against UF aligned entities, he knows exactly what the competition is offering, and what they can pay.

He made a reference recently about one of the UF aligned entities not actually having the funds to cover their offer(s).

I don’t know about up front money. In the state of Florida a HS player can’t accept any NIL $$$. Ruiz is actually spearheading a push to change that right now. Here they can’t start getting the funds until they’re enrolled in college. Are shenanigans going on to circumvent that, probably.

oof. you're probably right. otherwise he couldn't make the comment about being contractually obligated. Sucks the slimeball probably MADE money from us.

I don't blame big boosters. Who wants to donate money to this type of stuff?! Not only paying primadonna kids, but possibly paying the Mouth of South FL himself!

If all your suppositions are correct, (and I'm by no means sure that they are) then you've got a couple of pretty good arguments. However, please allow me to point out that the only HCs fired either during or after their third seasons, that I can recall, were Zook and McSharky. An argument could be made that the Zooker was the victim of following the greatest HC in school history and having the second greatest HC in school history eagerly waiting in the wings to take his job. If you want to fault the school for that, knock yourself out. For the Darwinists among us, I would suggest that that was just a case of natural selection in action. Shark Boy on the other hand basically committed career suicide with the death threat idiocy and richly deserved what he got. And FTR, the Mullet actually "quit" on the team in the midst of his fourth season, and again, got exactly what he deserved. And for at least the third time this morning, I'm all for "fixing" the NIL situation within the context of the full observance of state law and appropriate institutional standards. And lastly, to the point you and others have brought up about the need for the school to declare their intentions and then proceed accordingly; I believe it's abundantly clear that that has already occurred.
