Yep, I see the money moving toward the portal just like freeagency in tge nfl. The only problem is the schools that have the players have zero keverage( no contract). The best qb’s in the nation will never stay at schools other than the ones winning championships.

Honestly I think schools are OK with that. Revenue is being generated from media rights and playoff appearances. Soon there will be sponsorships from businesses. Schools are pulling seats to upgrade the overall fan experience. I personally think the days of packing stadiums are over but the quality of what you are going to get while there will improve.

Exactly. Ironically the people that are for NIL and paying players thought it would even the playing field and instead I fear it will end up with the same schools having that advantage.

But at least the athletes have some of the money generated from college sports right?

How do you regulate personal services contracts? Because that's what the USSC made legal. I just don't see a way to ever get this back in the bottle without a complete teardown and rebuild of the system. Probably something involving splitting off the football programs into, basically, franchises in some kind of closed pro league.

Context is lost to people like this. They think NCAA equates to the Jones family, when in fact it's more like a government with multiple financial responsibilities to multiple parties. Not some rich guy shoving dollars into his pocket like Jerry.

No, what the old man (and men. . . the ones with most of the money) are going to do is stop spending their money. We'll see how all these Sunshine's like that.

Agreed. We had a great run when college football was worth being competitive in. We also did what no other school has done in NCAA history, something that will likely stand for decades or even more. It was great. But it's over and based on this board, a lot of people are moving on.

It's not a professional youth system where they are Gators - quite literally - from the age of 10 up to the top pro league.

And the NFL doesn't want to pay for dozens. What's your point?

Can’t wait to to see the Nick and Kirby meltdown when the next Don King wanna be shows up and organizes this whole NIL mess into a higher level clown show.

But that's exactly what we're talking about here, different eras. Good eras and the current shitty era. So why wouldn't we make a comparison? Just saying, everyone drooled over Fields, but in the end, Bennett was what Georgia needed. Saying that commitment and things beyond 40-times (leadership, intelligence, composure) actually do matter. As much as I hate Georgia, in the face of all this shit, I love that kid.

The nfl loves its free farm system and colleges love their free rosters that generate 100+ mil a year. Those days are over. Boosters may foot the bill but that’s money that was prob earmarked for the UAA. It’s a total shot show right now and in danger of losing public support.

No, it's on the Supreme Court's. They legalized personal services contracts for college athletes. How do you regulate that under the current system? You can't. The value is determined solely by the opinion of the person giving out the money. Who's going to tell me that the 2M I paid that kid wasn't worth it for me? Nobody.

The genie isn't going back in the bottle . . . nor should it. I did not like EA Sports being able to use NIL of players without any compensation. The NCAA attempted to force the old system to continue, and allowed the favored few to blatantly cheat without consequence, and is now completely irrelevant (as it should be). Sure, they could try using some of those $Billions from March Madness, etc. to hire aggressive enforcement staff for rules already on the book, but the NCAA isn't interested in enforcement against the good-old-boys who actually run the organization. All this NIL just further exposes their impotence and irrelevance.

I think conferences will have to step-in and regulate NIL and, worse, poaching (STEALING) of players actively on rosters.

The schools, through the various conferences, have literally $Billions at stake.

Once a critical mass of fans walk away, they won't come back for a long time, if ever.

College sports is on that precipice right now.

UF doesn't lose a dime if the top 100 go pro out of high school. NOT. A. DIME. Based on the disinterest I'm seeing with the new system, they'd probably make more.

I still don't see how the conferences can regulate unless they go to a pro model and literally hand out salaries. And, hell, they could still take "endorsement deals" which is what NIL is. Personal Services Contracts = Anything goes.

Once they lose the boomers, it's over. More capital than any generation in US History and the subsequent generations will never match their contributions.

Yep. One thing to feel like a big shot handing out $100 handshakes, quite another to be literally shaken down and constantly solicited.

I disagree. A contract sets in stone what is valid and invalid in a relationship.

But - the other half of this is we need to treat college football like the pro sport it has been for decades. The way to do that is by culling the FBS to teams that can afford to pay players, have them sign contracts when they get drafted, etc.

That would be a solution for sure. Kids that are worth millions straight out of hs could move on. I actually live that idea. Nfl get it going? They said he’ll naw.

Sadly, this is what a draft is made for. It introduces a level playing field.

90% of the kids that go to SEC schools don't care where they go to school.
