I’m saying that what the school supports other than football isn’t the players problem. Take 50% and do what they can.

Football largely funds 19 other sports at UF (UF has 21 total sports but basketball is the one exception most years), including all of their facilities, scholarships travel, recruiting budgets, support staff, equipment etc. It’s a very different model than pro leagues. Outside of the coaches, the money all gets recycled back through UF for other needs.
So unless the answer is “pay the football kids and shut down 10 or more sports to do it”, the model of paying the kids won’t work.

This has been pro leagues for decades. That’s why coaches get paid what they do and it generates a billion a year. Making money makes it a profession. Everyone involved is a professional except the product on the field?

you could be right about the future, I'm not sure. you're right about the NFL getting to have its cake and eat it too.

As to the money, a lot of it does go to coaches. also from an article about Penn State for example: "But Penn State gets a lot of money from elsewhere, too. Media rights, royalties, conference distributions, concessions sales, and bowl revenues all contribute about $103 million to the school."

there's plenty of money to go around. all I'm saying is the system is what it is and there isn't anything we can do about it. We can't have great teams without great players. I get that the NCAA doesn't make any sense and never has, but I wish fans would not dump their frustration at the messed up system onto the players.

Well even if the story was that he's not enrolled (which seems to be confirmed) that's pretty big news and it's not on ESPN either. They're just not a big player in the space. They have a section on the site, they made a half-hearted run at it but that's as far as they ever really went. And then when ESDs came and made recruiting less of a big event, they stepped back even further.

This thread will not be hijacked to discussed political issues.

Also, per the Boss, Rule P is now fully in effect (again):

I get it but deciding what you do with the 50% that the players deserve without them having a say so it’s going to be a problem. My kid plays basketball in a public high school if I don’t give them $500, he does not play. I guess if my kid was any good at basketball some other parent would pay the 500 bucks

Fans/alumni pay pretty much all the bills for the University. That’s how it’s always been. They pay for the majority of the building upgrades, facilities, labs, research, etc, all of it. Some of it comes from the state and the feds, but the successful ones, the big money comes from fans/alumni. I guess the r&d on the academics side also gets a lot of grants, but the point remains. This isn’t the nfl, where an owner is running a business for profit and it’s his responsibility to pay for everything necessary to run the team.

But it is, whether they like it or not. It is the major funding mechanism for the entire athletic program.

And if that's their attitude re. the other student athletes, I'm rooting against them even harder. And just proves they're a bunch of selfish jackasses.

So demand entry into the NFL and go pro . . . "superstar!" God forbid you have to spend a couple years in purgatory (college football). And I'm supposed to give a crap about these guys?

They reinvest that money across the entire athletic dept, and donate a significant amount back to the school itself.

Here's your problem. You position this like UF/NCAA = Some Guy.

It's not. More like UF/NCAA = Local and State government. Yeah, there's money, but it's going to a thousand different things in a thousand different directions. I guess this is why you refuse to answer my question re. "who is getting rich?" So, who's getting rich? Who's buying yachts? The UAA is a non-profit organization, not the Jones family.

If you don’t give a crap about the players, why should they give a crap about you? It should be a working cooperative between all of us. They provide us with entertainment and we provide them with paychecks

Yes, that is correct. But is it fair to the football players to support all the sports that don’t make any money?

To me that doesn’t really matter. The 50% of the money generated by the players is being used for something other than the players and that is not their problem

Life isn’t fair. Nobody is forcing them to play football.

I pay taxes for schools, but I don’t have any kids that go to school. I don’t think that’s fair. The government does all kinds of things with my money that I do not support or agree with. I’ve worked harder than my bosses at almost all of my jobs, but received less pay than them. I don’t think that’s fair. Life just simply isn’t fair.

There are plenty of institutions out there that get by with $50 million a year for their athletic department. I suggest the big schools start to do just that and put the kids under contract

They should be able to go pro straight out of high school and then I wouldn’t call it coercion ad the way it is now. To play pro football, they have no other options. The NFL in the schools know exactly what they’re doing and it is on purpose.
