Sorry this is late. MCB51 and I thought we'd start something new but I had to take my granddaughter to her practice/walk-through. Game tomorrow. We've complained in the OGT about the refs. Florida was whistled for a season high 27 fouls against Arkansas . . . and were whistled with a new season high 29 fouls today! * * * * * After the game, Coach Finley said (paraphrasing): 17 FTs in the 4th Quarter . . . doesn't even know what to say about that. That's a little bit crazy. Thought the defense was solid. Had 4 kids foul out. Thought they played hard. Thought they had enough to win the game but 17 FTs in one quarter is just too many. We've got a tough team. We're resilient. The good news is Florida gets to play those guys again. This one leaves a sour taste . . . but, again, 17 FTs . . and those weren't just those 4 FTs on fouls at the end. So that's 13 FTs in one quarter and that's hard to overcome. Thought they shot a lot better. 50% from the 3 point line. Liked the aggressiveness. 3 sophomores a freshman and a senior out there and they got some good experience and big time minutes in a highly competitive game. KK is a competitor, is tough and has a resiliency about her and we expect her to hit those big time shots in big time moments and that's what she did. We have to keep growing and improving and stay dedicated to that. This was a game we really wanted but it is what it is and Florida is only 4 games into conference play . . . and we get another crack at them. * * * * *
Great summary, especially about the fouls..unbelievable the number called on UF in the 4th quarter..totally disrupted the flow of the game and changed the momentum of the game...
I agree. I was happily surprised how many time Coach Finley brought it up post-game . . . again and again . . . so I'm sure she did in her press conference and the story line will get out (but she can't get fined -- LOL!).
Not a popular opinion, but the fouls were less an issue than the turnovers. You can't control one. You can the other. You can't turn the ball over and get outrebounded by a smaller team. We fought hard and are short handed, but we lost the game. If coach is upset then go after the refs in the game, not after when it's too late.
If there was ever a time when Kelly should have plead her case very sternly to the officials, it was today. However, that is just not her style. I felt very early that the officials today were just putrid. How do you shoot 52% from the floor and lose? You do it by being outrebounded and having a ridiculous number of fouls called on your team.
