True, but where was Shane Mathews in the pecking order before the season started in his freshman year? 5th or so QB on SOS's team? I could be off, going strictly off memory.

Same reason the good teams have always stacked as much talent as they can. You don’t care when the deadweight hits the portal but you’ll find some great players you’ll otherwise never had.

I never said they were huge deals, I simply said NIL compensation. So we agree on that.

Trask would have never made it to a team taking whoever they wanted yet limited to 85. Those same teams damn sure would have taken him once they realized his ranking was way off. Thank god we were taking lower players I guess.

We need some experienced "one and done" types in a few positions of need.

I wonder is SOS would have seen his accuracy and started Trask as a freshman.

    Back to this thread.

I hope some of our great recruits get a boost in their final rankings and that puts us firmly in the top 10 recruiting class.

Kelby Collins should be a 5* star ranked player.

You’re missing what I’m saying. I wasn’t saying we shouldn’t take anyone in the portal. I’m saying why set up a program to stack up what are likely to be future portal candidates out of high school.

For the ones who are premier players down the road that are being overlooked.

Are you saying we're doing that, or are you just saying the opposite?

For me, I think Napier is getting players that will stay and contribute, but we still have some holes to fill with players from the portal.

We were never in disagreement on that.

What we’re discussing is a program set up to pay pwo’s and whether we would be able to lure top talent away from other schools. Or at least that’s what I thought we were talking about. Now it seems to have shifted to we should be paying a bunch of lower ranked kids to come here as pwo’s and sit on the bench instead of taking scholarship offers and actually playing at TCU. I don’t personally see either of those things actually becoming a sustainable model.

Pwo’s are just that though. I don’t know how many each team will do that with but if the money is there, why wouldn’t we. You’ll find a starter once in a while and if it’s known that they will get four years of an education, it’ll be valuable to some kids. There’s a reason they use to keep 125

A high end player would never take a PWO. Even with NIL. Why use NIL on school when they can get a scholarship at another school and keep the NIL in their pocket.
PWO and WO's are primarily depth and practice players. Once in awhile you find a late bloomer who contributes.

I’m not saying you shouldn’t try, just that it isn’t going to happen. Most of the kids actually want to play. Why take a huge risk going somewhere on a pwo offer where more than likely you’re just going to sit on the bench for a few years before transferring when you can get a real scholly somewhere else? Sure there’s going to be a kid who really wants to be a gator here and there, but it’s highly unlikely you’re going to stack up talent this way.

Nobody is stacking up real talent with pwo offers man. I would love for you to set this up for UF, but nobody is doing this.

I was talking to you about grey shirts and wanne about the pwo stuff. You’re kinda molding the two conversations together. Go back a few posts and my position should be more clear.

Forget the gray-shirts. If they are on the team then they should NOT count on pout scholarship total.

If they are just trying to graduate, or class/credit-up to become eligible to enter college? That should not even be considered to be a player, much less on the team. But I'll be Bama still gives theirs NIL compensation.

You lost me, man. Have no idea what you’re trying to say here. Bama pays people who are just there to graduate or become eligible to enter college and they shouldn’t count on the scholarship total?

Sincerely not trying to be an asshole, I just don’t know what you’re saying.

Grey shirts were a way past the 85 that still came back to count the next year. Pwo never counts.
