Ladies are on ESPNU. 5-4 Gators early. Jordyn Merritt is on the bench, but not dressed. Still a huge positive to see.
Playing much better today than last game. Seeing Merritt on the bench is awesome news. Honestly didn't think she would be back this season. Not sure if it means we see her on the court soon, but she is with the team again which is excellent news. If we can get her and Leilani back we can be a much better team by season's end.
Most of the time when something like that happens, a team unintentionally develops quality depth that can help in the Tournaments.
We have very good guard depth. It's the post play and depth I worry about this season. We really haven't had anyone step up there consistently and we have been playing 2 bigs. If Jordyn makes it back we can stay with 2 Bigs, per se while having 4 guards because of her skillset.
That's great. It's usually good guard play that gets a team farther in the Tournament . . . although post play and rebounding are obviously important.
So..I am learning..only 5 fouls puts a team in the bonus? I think I get it..combining 1st and 2nd quarters right?
WBB is different since they play by quarters but the fouls are accumulated by the half for purposes of the bonus and double bonus, I think. Edit: Well . . . looks like I was living in the past and this will require further investigation. I found: Women’s college basketball followed men’s bonus rules until the 2015–16 season, when it adopted FIBA bonus rules: four fouls per period; two free throws on every team foul over four; team fouls accrue from the fourth period on, as all overtimes are extensions of it. * * * * * * * * * * OK . . . here's the answer from the NCAA Rules: Section 2. Bonus Free Throws Art. 1. The bonus is the two free throws that are awarded for each personal foul (except an offensive foul) committed by a player of a team, beginning with the fifth team foul in a quarter. Art. 2. The team-foul total shall consist of a combination of personal fouls (includes offensive fouls), intentional fouls, disqualifying fouls, and player/ substitute and bench technical fouls. (Emphasis added).
