That other qb was actually more accurate last season. Threw more Tds too. Even while being on his back more as he was sacked 10 more times than AR. So again only being super athletic at the Qb spot might work on HS but he still has to be able to hit open receivers and make the right reads and maybe add some touch on the ball.

The original 107 alleged violations were loaded with tricky tacky allegations. That was standard NCAA investigation practice then, load the initial inquiry with as much b.s. as possible, then reduce them to the perceived most serious charges later. Very few will remember that the 107 was reduced to 59 later on, in the minds of casual fans (especially of other schools) it always will be 107… as a tactic it worked as intended. Even the final allegations included stuff that by today’s standards were minor ; 40 or 50 dollars here, extra shirts and caps, loaning the tuition money for student athlete (not on scholarship) while admitting the loan was repaid two or three days later by the students Mother, transportation for disadvantaged high school players to camp, letting non scholarship players stay in athletic dorms. (which were totally banned by the same organization shortly thereafter) Pell himself said he could find 100 of the 107 violations at any big time collegiate football program in 24 hours, including the still sanctimonious Big 10 (as it was then called) There were some serious allegations, and they were absolutely true… boosters were buying transportation for prospects. That was true at UF, FSU, Georgia, Alabama… you name the school. Pell admitted sending assistants to spy on opponents (he denied it initially), tickets were admittedly scalped, again as they were at many schools. Florida fans were not as upset with the punishment handed down by the NCAA as they were by the hypocrisy of it all… for goodness sake Georgia was investigated for the Firebird that Herschel Walker showed up with at Georgia, before we were. Of course good ole Vince Dooley just happened to be the chairman of the television committee, so their penalty was the loss of 2 scholarships, and a short probation. A probation Georgia was still under when they cited to strip us of our 1984 title (second vote, first vote was 5-1 to allow us to keep the title. The 1st and 2nd votes were a month apart). The Chicago Tribune article in 1985 made Florida sound like a rogue program, but largely excused The University of Illinois who was was initially accused of 189 violations… including some just as bad as Florida’s . ( later reduced to 80 ) They blamed the Florida’s Freedom of Information act, which certainly played a role. The truth remains however, that no one remembers Illinois 189 alleged violations, everybody remembers Florida’s. I know this is much too long, and off topic, but the record needs both sides of 1984 told. We all have our opinion of the events of those dark days, and we rightfully can take a stance one way or the other, but let’s not form them in a news medium induced vacuum.
I was not trying to imply that we were a rouge program. Admittedly, I don’t remember the details as vividly as you but I do remember UT leading the campaign to take our title away and other schools really piling on at every opportunity. The hypocrisy is/was real and it is the main reason when I’m asked …”who is your 2nd favorite CFB team”, and I simply reply …I don’t have one, I hate everyone else. They all suck.
That was 40 years ago. Are you still holding grudges against girlfriends that far back? Got too many extended family members who are alum from other SEC schools, mostly Auburn and UGA and I’m descended from Alabama royalty. Can’t afford to have grudges like that.
Yet he was doing what was necessary to compete with the winners who were doing exactly the same things. I’m for a level playing field and it’s almost impossible to get there. Unenforceable rules are there to inhibit the non heaters. Make it legal and rules are not broken.

Never been more excited for a freshman to get the ball after he got his first touches against UCF or whoever our first game was in 06. He was quicker and faster than everyone on the field. It was instantly noticeable. DeSean Jackson and Reggie bush were the only others I would put in his class
If he had the character of Tebow and was healthy he would have been one of the all time greats in the league.
