Gumps beat the kitties 78-52 and the gump fans chanting "NIT" at the end of game. Calamari said his team was rattled.
Cal was rattled as well. He’s failed with this team. We have the returning NPOY, the SEC leader in assists (2 years running) as well as a lottery pick. Lots of people will claim that this just proves what they’ve always said - that Cal can’t coach. X’s and O’s have never been his strength but he was very effective at winning. Not anymore. Basketball has evolved and he hasn’t - all while his talent level has dropped (not that it’s low but sure not the level it used to be). He used to be brash and arrogant but he won so much it sat well with UK fans - “swaggy Cal” he’d get called. Now the brashness doesn’t have as much of a chance to show and, instead, we get to see him wine and shirk responsibility. This all while dodging every possible interview or chance to connect with fans. Hate him all you want but he used to be the king of giving fans phenomenal access to him and the team. Not anymore. So we used to have winning as well as his best and worst qualities. Now we just have losing and the worst of those qualities. I’ve been ready for him to move on for a couple of years but, now, I’m actively dreading the chance that he doesn’t leave. He was great for the program but he’s not anymore.
I used to hate Cal, not anymore. Maybe he has mellowed some and shows some respect to other programs. OTOH, would happily change places with where UK is at and where we are.... (notwithstanding today's victory).
Cal is still getting players. Kentucky has four of the top-eight players in the country committed for the 2023 class and for good measure, also has the #22 player also. Getting high quality prospects isn’t the problem at UK.
Not only should Calipari be gone, our AD needs to take a hike as well. No way do I want him making the next hire….
