Few more details today... Police say the car had been thoroughly cleaned inside and out ... And police say he was wearing surgical gloves while at his parents house and possibly trying to hide his DNA by putting his trash in neighbors garbage cans late at night....

Also, one of the fathers of a victim says he was "hunting" and "stalking" them, FWIW.

 

Zero sympathy of course, but I cannot imagine the degree of paranoia that must consume you after doing something like this. Hiding your DNA??? How long could you expect to even keep that up anyway?

Idaho murders suspect secretly returned to scene hours later, phone data shows (msn.com)

Kohberger's phone was tracked heading to Moscow before the attack and as the driver of the white Elantra returned to Pullman. However, the phone was off from 2:47 a.m. to 4:48 a.m., which "is consistent with Kohberger attempting to conceal his location during the quadruple homicide," the document said.

His phone was near the victims' house at least 12 times before the murders, at least as far back as August, the document said. All of those times, except for one, were late at night or early in the morning.

The morning after the murders, he went near the house between 9:12 a.m. and 9:21 a.m., the documents said, citing cellphone data.

 

Also of interest is that cellular data showed the suspect traveling south on hwy 95 out of Moscow. This would be way out of the way for him to return to Pullman. I wonder if he drove out to a remote location to ditch the murder weapon.

The report of the girl who survived and encountered him in the house around the time of the murders (he reportedly walked right past her) is just chilling. As others have noted, it's so strange that the 911 call did not come until hours later. WES might be correct that there were drugs involved.

 

Speculation: It is presumed that the suspect returned to the scene some time after 9am. He may have been seeking to retrieve the sheath left behind, but saw activity in the home, as the survivors were cleaning up their drugs. Or, there may have been too much activity in the neighborhood to attempt reentry.

I know there's a matter of innocent until proven guilty, but after reading the affidavit, I think this kid is a murderer. Judgement cometh.

 

More bad info being spread ... the FBI says it did not order or direct the Indiana traffic stops.

The FBI and Indiana State Police just put out a statement saying the Fox News report is inaccurate, "Contrary to reports, the December 15th traffic stops conducted on the vehicle being driven by Bryan Kohberger in Indiana were not requested or directed by the FBI."

I was always skeptical of that report.

 

Oh come on man - the surviving kids were not “cleaning up their drugs”.

 

Perhaps not, it was speculation. Why do you think the survivor who saw the killer in her home near 4am waited until almost noon to call police?

 

The victims dad said it himself in words to the effect that people in fear behave in all kinds of ways that appear sometime bizarre to those looking in from the outside. I’m not going to judge them, what happened that night will scar them for life and nothing they did or didn’t do affected the outcome.

To expand on the point those saying they were cleaning up their drugs would have you believe that the roomates found the bodies and rather than call 911 spent (hours!) running through the crime scene disposing of what? Some Molly, a little coke, weed? It’s nonsense to think that.

 

Nobody said they were doing that. Nobody disparaged them either. It's indeed a highly unusual case involving bizarre behavior. The drugs theory is not out of the realm of possibility and that's all I'm saying. Won't belabor this possibility with you further.

 

CNN reported early on that a public genealogy DNA database was used to ID this guy as possible suspect. Perhaps it’s bad info or I’m misunderstanding what was said but here’s what they reported:
Genetic genealogy techniques were used to connect Kohberger to unidentified DNA evidence, another source with knowledge of the case tells CNN. The DNA was run through a public database to find potential family member matches, and subsequent investigative work by law enforcement led to him as the suspect, the source said.

It could be true. I’m just saying it’s unconfirmed as it’s not in the affidavit. And we’ve seen several stories from similar sources get debunked (like the FBI directing the Indiana cops to pull over the perp and his dad) in the past few days.

 

I thought the phone companies were adamant about protecting the rights of individuals and would not release the cell phone data? Wasn't that the case a few years ago when Comey tried to get the data from the couple in the bay area who killed a bunch of their co-workers?

 

i thought that was the phone manufacturers not wanting to unlock their phones.

Phone records are pretty standard for police to look at as evidence.

 

Phone records are just a court order or search warrant depending on what you are trying to get.

Unlocking a device and breaking it’s security is a separate issue. The Israeli Cellibrite company was one that folks would contract to break a phone. Not sure if Apple does it.
