Marcus Allen was another that could get yardage that wasn’t there. Emmit made it happen but Allen slipped into holes that weren’t there. I love the old rb’s.

I would go with Emmit for a 2 yard run. His time here was more than corroborated by what he did with the Cowboys. If the run had to be bounced outside, then I would go with Fred Taylor. His combo of speed and power was unrivaled. Honorable mention to Pierce on his "helmetless" run at the goal line.

    * As a note, Derrick Henry, had he chosen Florida, would have been a strong contender for the "2 yd title", however our Offensive Genius coach at the time didn't want him as a RB, only as a LB.

Thought I would throw out a name that has gone missing from discussions on the great all-time backs in UF history.

Larry Smith was a freshman in 1965 and therefore couldn’t play but the campus awaited his unveiling during Spring practice and he put on a show at the spring game.

He went on to be chosen in the 1st round by the Rams. He was a big back with speed.

Any of you younger Gators may want to check out his history as the ‘65 class grows older.

I forgot about him. Very true. And in a body one wouldn't typically associate with a short-yardage back.

Sorry but my computer skills are minimal. I wanted to post a Wikipedia on Larry Smith but just couldn’t figure it out. If one of you talented guys could do that, I believe the board might find it interesting regarding his accomplishments. Most on this board likely have not heard of him. He was forced (I believe) to later retire (before he wanted to) due to an injury.

    Thanks for any assistance

Good idea. The Chicago Bears occasionally ran DL William Perry “the Refrigerator” on short yardage plays at the goal line.

Came across this story. How legends grow!

    BEATING PANTS OFF UF LEGEND

And to think he was in the backfield with SOS as QB.

    Thanks Val
    Highlights:
Took his team Tampa Robinson to play in the State Championship but lost to perennial State and National powerhouse.

Outstanding Player in Orange Bowl while sharing the stage with Spurrier

8th overall pick in the draft. Not sure where that ranks in Gator history but should up there.

The Chapparal. Still in service when I came in. Very limited range. Wouldn’t do anything against Neal.

My dad agrees with you. And, I should since he was at our house all the time when I was crawling around on the floor before I learned how to walk and apparently took me around wherever he went regularly.

Hard to go against either Emmitt Smith, John L. Williams or Eric Rhett. But for me, I would want the ball in the hands of Tim Tebow - the guy with the most passion and determination I have ever seen in a Florida Gator.

Didn't see Emmitt play at UF... Eric Rhett or Fred Taylor
