Creed did sign, so he’d have to get out of his loi. I can’t imagine we welcome trent back after quitting on the team mid season. I would have originally liked to have them both, but they made their decisions and they’ve got to live with them now. I personally would not take either back at this point.
Just a week ago some were on here pining away about how all the good portal players were gone and Napier sucks, blah, blah, blah. I just went through 4 pages of players flooding the portal right now, as predicted. So many opportunites to fill out the roster to even keep track of at this point.
With the one free transfer waiver, the second team may have the advantage with underclassmen, especially if the player is only a year removed from HS. You get 2-3 years at least before they can declare for the draft. And you also had a year of development at the first school and the chance to see how that player performed.
You would think with the number of P5 players from Florida playing around the country that the chances are greater for Florida schools to get a lot of successful transfers who want to come home after making money elsewhere.
It makes you wonder with all the more recent portal entrants who are really successful P5 players, did the early entrants get overhyped and overrated because they looked like what was available?
I was wondering about that too. I think there is always some great KNOWN players in the portal but also some underrated gems in the portal. Like this Cal WR. Never heard of him a day in my life but I bet he’ll have big time suitors. Wouldn’t be mad if we added him to our room but I’m wondering if the staff feels set at WR. He’s 6’3 185….sign me up!!
Certainly is a position that it wouldn't be surprising for more attrition after spring practices also.
Carter's Corner: Mitchell Latest to Join Gators in Roster Makeover - Florida Gators The above link says that 34 Gator players who were on the roster at the Utah opening game in 2022 will not be on the roster at the 2023 Utah opening game due to transfers, dismissals, and NFL exits. That's astonishing to me. The good news with that might be that our roster will probably already be comprised of something like 2/3 Napier's players with all of the turnover. We currently have 20 signees this year, plus four transfers. Doesn't that fact, combined with the 34 exits, mean that we still have room for 10 more at the moment from final NSD and the portal? There are currently only 14 players still unsigned from the ESPN 300 list. Seems like each year there are more and more elite players grabbing their slots early at ESD in December.
If CBN maxes out with portals and at least a couple more leave after spring drills, that means (if Pearsall stays and Miller stays), we will have 60 of CBN's guys plus the 25 of the best remaining from Mullen's recruiting classes. That is a major flip of the roster in a little over a year.
Totally agree with your major flip observation. That's where I was going with this, too. The 2/3 roster was a guess on my part, but, looks like it's not that far off. Is Miller contemplating another transfer? The thing that makes me think the most about next year's challenges is the QB position and the OL swapout. Even though Miller hasn't shown us that much yet, we do need a bridge to Rashada, and, I'm not sure Mertz is it.
Jordan Burch (USC) into portal. Would love to grab him if true. Jordan Burch enters NCAA Transfer Portal
