Surely they see pressure defense jumpstarts the offense. It usually does. Maybe Coach is uncomfortable with ball handling . . . but it looked fine with the pressure defense tonight. It seems they pressure and do well and then just drop back and wait on the offense to do its things and react. Edit: Plus, I'd like to see Coach getting a little more involved doling out minutes based on who is defending well and running and cutting.
Exactly. It's just dribble and try to beat two guys. It also doesn't help that we are not only a poor three point shooting team, but don't have a dead eye shooter. I get frustrated with Jones as well. I love that he came back and expected him to find his shot this year. I just don't knkw what he adds now.
We had a week to prepare for this game and I didn't see anything new...TG had to know the 1-2-2 press was coming yet it burned 8-9 seconds off the shot clock and gave us less time to get into our offense. Some of it is Lofton's fault as he was way too slow dribbling the ball up and getting us in our set. We played so much better when we opened the 2nd half up tempo and with energy. As individuals, these players have strong skills but put together as a team they are unfortunately dysfunctional.
no one is moving. The help often comes from the weak side… shooting over on the pass. Our guys stands on the other side… forcing cc to either play thru, reset or make a cross court pass. He did the latter a couple times for turnovers. Not his fault… we aren’t moving. We gotta coach around the way teams are defending Colin. You should be able to exploit double teams. We are doing nothing…. To the point that teams are sometimes throwing three guys at him. MOVE!!!!!!
Florida looked like a completely different team when they hit their 3s right after halftime. Just a 10% or so improvement over the game would mean a lot. IDK.
This continuity ball-screen stuff isn't working. It's apparently supposed to open up all these multiple opportunities for pick-and-roll plays and all I see is us wasting time.
Which makes me wonder why? Are they being coached to not move? It's crazy for me to say I'm starting to get apathetic with Florida basketball. I love Gator basketball more than football by a decent amount. At 34, and an alum, I've got to see some amazing success. I am just at a loss as a fan over the last couple seasons.
If he can’t get three physical bigs, then we are toast next year also. Hs recruiting, transfer portal and we go after guards. We need enforcers, go get ‘‘em and pay them. Georgia is going to beat us twice, Texas A&M, Missouri, Alabama, kentucky, Tennessee, all of them are loaded with the muscle and we are not tough enough to win. This is going to be the worst record for a team at Florida for a long time, maybe even three decades. Beyond disappointed!
Lofton is doing nothing for us outside of dribbling up the court, and same with his backup in Jones. Our 3’s and 4’s have no consistency, which puts all the pressure on CC with Bonham sometimes showing up despite being a liability due to his height. I’d personally like to see Aberdeen get some minutes, as he seems to be a bit more of a playmaker.
it feels unrealistic to think we can get 3 decent bigs next year, when we couldn’t even get one last year, unless you count Colin coming back
I agree the 3-man weave at the top seems to just kill more shot clock forcing players to play under duress or take a tough shot...it doesn't seem to get a ton of open looks.
Isn't Florida still in the thick of things for that kid that's being compared to Tiswabe (Kentucky player)?
I’m baffled. To me, this is a better roster, on paper, than a season ago. Combine that with Castletown being out or injured much of last season… and I expected some reasonable season-over-season improvement. It’s been far from that … so far.
Hmmm...I will check that fact out..I have followed Gator BB since right before Dwayne Schintzus played..remember some pretty bad teams during all that time
I just read this is the worst start for Gator basketball this century. Crazy. I agree with Neil here from Florida Basketball Hour: Lots of season left but important to remember this was NOT a rebuilding year. Talented team and new staff got Castleton to return and landed everyone they targeted in portal except Terry Roberts, as@MalikG pointed out. Tournament team talent. Underachieving. - N
Agree the roster is better. So far it appears like we have downgraded from Mike White. Now we get to hope and pray Todd learns in the job for the next three years.
Except, again, I go back to the start of the second half Florida team. THAT team wins this game and the Auburn game. I have no clue why Coach allows them to take their foot off the pedal defensively . . . unless he's the one telling them to for some reason.
Yeah- As I said above… I tend to agree. I can’t shake the opinion this team should be significantly better than it is playing. i think Golden felt the same way… suggesting this a tourney team.
